Missing Wisconsin exchange student

This story is so sad. I cant imagine my child being found dead, the day after he embarks on a student exchange.

Very sad. His friends said he wasn’t drunk last time they saw him. Came across bad people, it appears… :frowning:

Its frightening. So many on this forum have kids who have gone abroad. My last is entering college in the fall, and though I encourage her to study abroad, Im certainly going to be a nervous wreck , when the time comes.

Keep in mind that statistically, the most dangerous part of the student’s trip is the car ride to the airport. Unless they’re going to Beirut, ack.

This is so sad. He’s a year behind my son at UW (my son didn’t know him). My heart aches for his parents.

Prayers for his family, friends, and the University of Wisconsin Badger community. So very sad.

oh my gosh, this is heart breaking. such a positive thing turned into horror. poor family.

Beau was a classmate and friend of a neighbor boy. This is a sad reminder that all our children are vulnerable to crime.

Horrifying. Looks like it could have been foul play in that thousands of dollars were charged to his credit card. He was last seen at an Espresso Bar with friends. Just so sad - hoping his family are able to cope.

My dd just arrived to Spain on Sunday. I’ve been stressed since Friday.

Her orientation on Monday (today) focused completely on safety and watching out for pickpockets.

My heart hurts for his family and his community. Why do people attack our young people? Makes no sense!!

“Why do people attack our young people? Makes no sense!!”

Sadly, drunk youngsters who do not speak the language well and/or look out of place make easy targets. So sad…

It was reported that Beau wasn’t drinking alcohol. At over 6 feet tall and 220 pounds it would seem that there would have been multiple attackers and/or he was drugged.

@Madison85 wow, I hadnt heard those details. I hope they find his murderer/s, and disclose the circumstances.

A witness saw two people throw a body off of a bridge over the Tiber River the night Beau disappeared.

@Madison85 oh my goodness, how awful.

Police confirmed to CBS News Monday that a body was found in the Tiber river near the Marconi bridge, about one mile south of the area where Solomon was last seen. Police told Solomon’s family Monday that he was mugged and thrown into the river.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Cole Solomon, Beau Solomon’s 23-year-old brother, said that investigators believe he was murdered. He said his brother suffered a head wound and was found with blood on his shirt.

How awful. It may not have helped but having a buddy system, at least for the first week, seems sensible. Even if it prevents no crimes it may keep people from getting lost.

I do not think he was drinking - he was last seen at an Espresso Bar with his friends. Not sure if they serve alcohol in Espresso Bars. Very sad situation. Cannot imagine what his family is going through right now.

A suspect has been detained: https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/italian-police-arrest-homeless-man-death-us-student-081045983.html

My heart breaks for this family. Thoughts and prayers to them.

So sorry for this family. Hopefully his killers will be brought to justice.

Obviously, our young people need to be careful no matter where they are, but the easier access to alcohol in other countries can make them more vulnerable.

UA lost a study abroad student in May. Long story short, he and pals had been in a bar at night, and he did a risky thing later on a balcony, and fell. I know the family, and they are inconsolable. Their very long flight abroad to retrieve his body was absolutely horrific, compounding their extreme grief.
