What usually happens if a mistake is made on financial aid applications? My dad has been filling out forms, because he’s familiar with taxes and etc.

I’ve been proofreading. However, sometimes I’m unsure about questions or financial figures.

Just for my peace of mind, do mistakes on financial aid applications have any impact on admission decisions? What will happen if I make mistakes on FA applications, and what can I do to avoid those mistakes?

A mistake on your FINANCIAL AID application will not affect your admissions. HOWEVER it very much could affect your financial aid award. Right now, you are probably using income and tax estimates to complete the FAFSA/Profile forms. However, you will need to complete your 2010 tax returns and amend both forms to reflect the ACCURATE…same numbers from those tax returns. There is NO margin of error. The final numbers on these financial aid forms MUST match those on your 2010 tax return.

So…get those 2010 tax returns done ASAP and then go online to amend the FAFSA making changes to the fields that reflect the numbers on your 2010 tax returns.

If you need to amend the Profile, you will need to contact the colleges to find out what they want you to do to amend it. They will tell you.
