Miswriting the amount that my parents are able to pay for my college expense in CSS Profile

Hi, I have been accepted to my dream school, and have received a financial aid from the institution.

But what I have not noticed until now is the different number that I entered in CSS PROFILE where it asked me to “Enter the amount your parents think they will be able to pay for your 2017-18 college or university expenses.”. For example, I wrote $35000 instead of $32000 which I was the expense my parents were aiming at. The amount that I expected and actually received differ by $3000.

My college does list Incorrect financial information on initial financial aid application as one of the reasons for requesting for a reconsideration. Do you think my case applies to the reason that the college accepts? And will they, by any chance, reduce the amount of financial aid after I request a form for reconsideration of FA?

I am an international student, so I won’t be able to amend my parental contribution after my initial year which is 2017.

Thank you for your help in advance

I don’t even know why they even ask how much can your parents pay. It really does not make a difference in the school’s determining what they can pay.

Because you wrote more than what you thought they could pay is not a basis for an appeal, especially as an international student your ability to pay is tied to whether or not to admit you.

Some parents have even said they have entered how much they want to pay, rather than how much they could pay because this question has no bearing on the financial aid package. The school did not use the parents number at all. It really is not calculated in to the determination so, unless you have another basis for reconsideration, you should not expect they will change the amount.
