MIT admissions

hey guys

I wanted to know-what do you think MIT would think of this? They ask for a LoR from a STEM teacher and a LoR from a humanities teacher. What do you think if I asked a teacher who taught me PE in 10th grade but it wasnt regualr pe. It was an integrated class with differently abled students who we learned communication, educational, and awareness techniques for the humanities class? also i know this teacher very well b/c i earned my certificate of neurodiversity with her and am a leader in her club and have been consistently interacting and working with special education students throughout high school. MIT doesnt prevent me from submitting this lor but im just wondering would this approach count against me or for me?

If the teacher is identified as PE, I wouldn’t as your not be following their instructions. Why take that chance ?

That said, you could always ask your MIT admission rep. In general I’d find 11th grade, not 10th grade teachers.

Good luck.

the teacher isnt actually pe, shes a special education teacher—but i took PE with her to learn how to be more inclusive and it sparked my interest in diveristy and inclusion. thats a great advice–ill ask my admissions rep. thank you!

It doesn’t hurt to ask, but I would not consider that teacher to be a humanities or STEM academic teacher. IF MIT allows a supplemental LOR you can consider asking the PE teacher.

Would you say the class is “academic”?

See what they provide as examples of what they mean. Best for you to judge but it does not sound like it.
