MIT Early Action Class of 2030 Official Thread

My nephew was deferred. Does anyone know what the chances are of getting in from a deferral? My sister thinks deferrals go into the RD pile.

Where else would they go? Yes, deferred candidates are now in the RD pile.

Yes, that’s where they go.

Ok - thank you. At some colleges deferred/waitlisted students are not a part of RD. They wait until after RD decisions go out. I’m not at all familiar with MIT, which why I was asking.

Deferred and waitlisted are completely different concepts. Some schools do waitlist EA students, but that’s different than a deferral. I don’t know of any school where deferred applicants don’t become part of the RD cohort…please let us know if you know of any.

Most schools show on their website what actions are possible after each round of admission. Here’s MIT EA results for Class of 2030: MIT Early Action Decisions Now Available Online | MIT Admissions

Your nephew will now get his decision on March 14 at 6:28 pm ET.

Good luck to him!

Thank you for the helpful response.

I asked a question about the process for a college that I am unfamiliar with and have received a satisfactory response.

Best wishes to all!

MIT defers about 2/3rds of early applicants each year, so unfortunately it’s hard to read anything into it. Best wishes to him for the regular round.
