Deferred! Proud of this, we didn’t expect another shot.

Thank you!

Yes, he was class of '24, but graduated early a year ago. He now lives in NYC, which is just four hours by train, and they are excited to start seeing each other more often.

I have a class of '24 too so that’s how I remember you. I swear I’m not a creep, but I’ve wondered if your son regretted turning down the Vanderbilt scholarship (I remember that was a big decision for you 4 years ago.) I hadn’t seen you post on the MIT parent fb page in a while.

Seeing that your S24 also applied to MIT with an amazing profile, makes me think you’re happy with your '24’s decision!

Here’s last year’s data:

Applications: 11,392 (after 532 of 11,924 withdrew)
Admitted: 685 (6%)
Deferred: 7,892 (69%)
Rejected: 2,815 (25%)

So yes, a tad more were rejected this year (27% vs 25%), but not by very much.

Looks like for class of 2023, for example, the number was 26%. So this is more or less in line with the last few years.

Very much so. Didn’t regret it for a minute. The ROI has been beyond imaginable (especially considering early graduation), not to mention various academic and social intangibles.

Based on his experience, his brother’s application field was narrowed significantly (no Vandy, no state schools besides our flagship and GTech). We are still waiting to hear from GTech, but at this point are fully committed to MIT, even if he gets invited to interview for Stamps at GTech. (The oldest interviewed but didn’t get it in the end, and I was honestly so happy, it felt like he got admitted to MIT the second time, even though it felt prudent at the time to take the Stamps if offered. The younger won’t even interview even if invited. He belongs at MIT.)

Wholeheartedly agree with this. My kid had multiple full-rides elsewhere (nowhere as impressive as Vandy which only gave us $5k in my recollection) but the ROI at MIT has been incredible. The research opportunities, internships, and intangibles are beyond what I expected.

My kiddo finished undergrad requirements a year early & is earning their MEng this year (fully funded.) So I paid for 3 years but they’re graduating with a BS and Master’s in 4 years from
MIT and have their dream job lined up for August.
