for the mit app essay which is How did you manage a situation or challenge that you didn’t expect? What did you learn from it?*
would writing about getting rejected from my dream school, stanford, be an ok essay topic? or is it taboo?

On the one hand this seems to me to be a rather questionable topic. The obvious first thought is if Stanford is your dream school, then why would MIT want to admit you? Also, I do not see how this could possibly be a situation or challenge that you didn’t expect. Assuming that you have not personally won a Nobel Prize, and that you are not both the number one high school quarterback in the country and also a straight A student with 800 on the math SAT exam, then getting rejected by Stanford is what you should have expected.
On the other hand, admissions to MIT is a high reach anyway. If you are going to be rejected, then you might as well have some fun (edit, but only if you are going to amuse the folks at MIT admissions, rather than annoy them).
This makes me wonder: What did you learn from being rejected by Stanford?
Hi yes, I agree! Thank you for your feedback. Just wondering, absed on my profile, ad what you know about me, what schools do you think i could get into/what shcools do youthink would be a good fit for me? just curious!
It’s unusual but hmmm no.
Everyone should expect rejection from Stanford or you show arrogance if you feel otherwise - and I think they are looking for an unforeseen challenge.
This is not a real problem/challenge in life and why would you tell them you really don’t want to be there but rather want to be at Stanford ?
It’s unique but I think a horrible idea.
You didn’t list anything about yourself.
Hi yes, sorry! @DadTwoGirls has been a frequent responder to many of my posts and in my last post ( a chance-me) i explained a lot about my profle and @DadTwoGirls was kind enough to respond and help me on that qustions, so was wondering based on that
@tsbna44 I agree with you for sure, I was trying to convey more of a hope that I would get into Stanford since it was my dream school (I knew I would get rejected) but I didn texpect it in a way because I had so miuch hope and kidn of gaslighted myself into thinking would get in lol but that’s why wanted to maybe talk about it but maybe not ![]()
RPI might be on your list since you like MIT. I saw your profile on your other bit if you ask where you would match, you need to list your profile. Where else did you apply and what is your budget situation ?
i am about to submit to ivys, jhu, geroge mason, rpi, (completed all UCs) and RIT. in regards to budget I have 90k+ capacity
Looking at your other threads, I am reminded that you have 6 B’s in STEM classes. To me this makes MIT seem very unlikely for admissions, and also very unlikely to be a good fit. MIT is full of students who still remember the one A- that they got in a STEM class rather than their normal A+ grades, and these students find MIT to be academically very challenging and a lot of work. I would be inclined to just forget about MIT.
My understanding is that you are from California, and have already applied to all of the Universities of California. I am assuming (and hoping) that this includes Merced and Riverside. You might want to look at the various CSUs and try to figure out which would be the best fit for what you want in a university, including but not necessarily limited to what you want to study. I wonder about Arizona State. You are from a WICHE/WUE state, which makes the various WUE schools something to consider. However, I am not familiar with their undergraduate programs for your intended majors.
If $90k is the total for a full 4 years, then budget is a big issue and this would likely either leave you in-state or at a school known for giving good aid, or maybe WUE. If this is per-year, then budget is much less of a restriction.
Isn’t this like telling someone you want to date them only because the person you really wanted said no?
But more importantly, this…
But it sounds like you have many other great choices, so I’m sure you’ll end up somewhere that’s a good fit. Don’t despair.
That’s like asking someone to prom and saying they’re your second choice because your first choice rejected you.
And in case I’m being too subtle, that’s a horrible idea. Indeed, I think it is the absolutely worst idea for an essay that I’ve ever heard.
