MIT MITES @2015

@Hasufel Same here! I was shooting for MITES but I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the congratulations!

Got into MOSTEC!!! Does anyone know the national merit cutoff score for 2016 btw?

@jossotriv merit cutoff goes by state

How unfortunate that the majority of people admitted are people who opened their accounts today (?) Unfortunately, there is no way to know the background story. Hopefully, these lucky people would stick around and we can see the trajectory during college admission season.

Talking about MITES and College Admissions:

One senior at my son’s school went to MITES last year. He did not get into MIT. He did not get into Caltech. He did not get into Cornell and many other selective universities.

He got into CMU, though. I think his SATs during college admissions were the biggest problem.

After seeing this, I have concluded that MITES helps but at the end of the day, the student will need to meet MIT’s standards during admission season.

Got into MOSTEC! Was shooting for MITES, but happy to be accepted into something.Does anyone have a link for the Facebook group?

@VanillaBean22 I don’t know for sure but honestly, I don’t think rejection of the MIT summer programs are a reflection because after all, these are summer outreach programs. College admissions are whole different process. For their summer outreach programs, they’re looking for a certain type of student that is different from the type of student their looking for when doing college admissions. You may not have fit their profile for their summer programs but you may fit their profile for an MIT undergraduate or whatever ivy you’re looking at.

For anyone still looking here’s the link to the MITES facebook group: https://www.****.com/groups/mites2015/
The **** is “facebook” (no quotation marks)

the e2 fb group is https://www.facebook.com/groups/e2atmit

@kittymom1102 Yes, I fully agree with you, but that is not the problem. I just don’t want to have a major in mind, and not be able to explore it during the summer and figure out if I really like it before I apply to a school and change it. My main schools right now are centers of actuarial excellence. Basically you have to take 8-10 arduous exams that are super tough to pass to become a ceritfied actuary and the two organizations that adminster the test list schools that meet 8 specific requirements (connections to the industry, do they have a gradute program for it, etc). Basically, my top schools are therefore part of this list of 25 CAEs. I just don’t want to go there and find out I don’t like it in ollege when I could be doing something else.

UPDATE: So I got acceetd into MOSTEC!!! Congrats to everyone who was accepted and really don’t look down on yourself if you didn’t. I started writing this at the time when I hadn’t checked, and I only go for one week, so my other programs should fit

Wait so is there like an order you are considered in? Is it like MITES > E2 > MOSTEC?

@AdrianF24 Congrats!

Please don’t drop from the CC. For what I noticed from previous MITES threads, MITES, MOSTEC, E2 admitted students tend to disappear after April. I hope you stick around!

Please don’t leave us. The good stuff is about to start  We want to see how things unfold. I think that will be very helpful for futures applicants

CONGRATS!

Opps!

“future applicants”

MOSTEC from FL!

@gebo342 Same here! South or North, I’m not gonna stalk, just curious as to where people are from, I’ll most likely meet you in August, but at least we have one thing in common.

@kittymom1102 Don’t worry; I really like this website, and it’s helped me since 9th grade. Invaluble website right here.

@ZucchiniSoup I am Vietnamese, so I classify myself as Asian. For personal reasons I won’t discuss, I’m very much the opposite of the Asian stereotype. I think SSP and OEOP saw that in me. I hope this is part 1 of the American Dream, by the way :))))) (I am a first generation born here)

MOSTEC from the Dominican Republic
Wow the reply date is too soon, I’m still waiting for PROMYS decisions to come out. Did any of you also apply to PROMYS? I guess I’ll say yes to MIT, but it will be painful if I later get accepted to the other program :frowning:

They are always listed in that order, but I would say that E2 and MOSTEC are about equal. Personally, I prefer MOSTEC over E2, but maybe others see it differently. I would say that MITES >> E2 ~ MOSTEC

I got rejected from all three programs, really don’t know why. I’m Hispanic from Florida. 3.9 gpa, taken 4 APs and currently in 5. Stellar ECs. Parental income ~120k. Applied with a 2070 on SAT, which is annoying because I got a 2290 in March but wasn’t able to send those. That’s the only reason I see that may have led to my rejection. Essays and recs were/should’ve been stellar. Personally annoyed, not angry at the rejection notice. I didn’t even wanna do MITES. I wanted to do E2. Whatever lmfao

@baller55 Honestly, it’s not just about your stats. Plus, your income sounds too high for this summer program. I got accepted into MIT MOSTEC with 145 PSAT (below average), yet I had an amazing essay and exceptional grades. I think these MIT program weren’t looking for top students in the nation because your stats are clearly better than mine, yet they were looking minority/urban students with motivation in despite of past events. I still encourage you to apply to other summer programs, good luck!!

Congrats to everyone who got into MITES/E2/MOSTEC!
I was part of MOSTEC last year, so I may be able to answer some of your questions about the program.
