Got into MITES!!! I am super excited and stoked to meet everyone else! Congratulations to all who got in!
I got into E2. I’m glad
Rejected from all 3.
SAT 2300, PSAT 223, UW GPA 3.97, WGPA 4.75, 9 APs as of now. Good EC.
White girl from the middle class family
I think my essays got me in because my PSAT scores were awful lol. Good grades, decent school schedule, a couple of ECs. I feel like I was statistically weaker than most people who got into any of the 3 programs (besides the fact that I’m AA/low-income), so it had to be my essays that got me in.
So for whoever asked, there’s my race ^^ lol
Btw @Dinka7 you have great stats! Don’t let the acceptances discourage you!
Thank you. I applied to this program by mistake. Did not realize that this is for racial minorities not the gender ones. I got into a great research program. Just posted my stats for the future non-minority applicants. Have a great summer everyone.
Didn’t get in to MITES, but I’m in for E2!!! I’m so excited!!!
(btw, I’m Chinese-Vietnamese, low income, parents didn’t go to college, but my sisters did)
I don’t see the fb page for e2
@Newdle Congratulations on your improvement in test scores, that exemplifies hard work which is what makes a person and this country great. It should only be that in what matters for a person, and not race as being factors in these types of admissions.
However, what is your race? I want to see how strong the correlation is between race and acceptance, because whites and Asians suffer terrible conditions, and I am sure more than enough applied to fill a lot of these spots. Also, if one were to truly consider diversity, there is an overwhelming amount of blacks and hispanics, relative to whites and Asians. How is that diverse? Schools, like Berkley, are often criticized for having too many white people or Asian people. Why isn’t this program criticized the same? Just because of America’s curse, political correctness?
I got into MITES!!! I had really low test scores (I’m pretty sure the lowest I’ve seen on this thread), Im pretty sure it was my essays that stood out. Although congrats to everyone who got into MITES/MOSTEC/E2, and for those of you who did not, you can still do awesome things, do not let this define you and your success in life.
Same here- I got into MITES with a 2160 and 224 SAT/PSAT, respectively- I think my essays carried me a lot of the way. Race: See username.
Posting for my son:
Son did not get admitted into any of the MIT programs. Hispanic kid in Florida, attending a Title I school. However, we are not low income by most people’s standards, 100K+. Both parents college grads, father with PhD in the STEMS (college prof.).
Son got 217 in PSAT, 4.0 u/w GPA, AP Scholar at the end of Sophomore year, and taking 6 more APs as Junior.
Although late for MITES’s application, he took the SAT in March for the 1st time and got 2290, 800M, 770R, and 720W.
Could it be socio-economic? A couple of kids from son’s school got admitted in the recent years. However, they were all low income/first gen.
My stats:
Low PSAT (not posting), 4.2 GPA (weighted and unweighted),
First Gen Latina, Title I School, Low income
Lots of EC’s with leadership positions
I guess good essays and recs
2270 SAT; 3.9 UW GPA; 4.5 W GPA
First Generation White Male (Middle of Middle Class)
-Rejected from all 3 Programs-
@ZucchiniSoup You made a good point about being snobbish, I guess that’s a thought that wasn’t going through my head. I can imagine that the committee (as a previous thread said) was super stressed with the applicants and probably wouldn’t favor someone bugging them in the middle of it.
Am I the only one too afraid to open their email?
Got into MITES! All thanks be to God! Can’t believe I actually get to post this!
My transcript and GPA are sexy as hell compared to my decent, dull looking test scores. But they were solid enough that I didn’t worry too much about them. I whole-heartedly believe it was my essays that got me in, they were sexy too. haha My recs were written by amazing teachers who I’m so lucky to have this year!
Can someone link me to the FB group? I can’t find it besides the one that was originally made for the webinar.
I’m so excited! Can’t wait to meet all of you amazing people!!
P.S. All those who didn’t get in or get the program they wanted you’ll be just fine. Like it was said, just do something meaningful with your summer and HAVE FUNN!
I feel so conflicted, does anyone know if you have to say if you’re going (if you were accepted) by a certain date? My main issue is that I wanted to take the June ACT since I was too late to sign up for May. Thing is, the June ACT is the first day of MITES. I was talking to an alumnus of my school (that got into MITES as mentioned earlier and is in MIT) and he said, if anything, do MITES and then take September’s ACT since colleges will care more about a 6 week program that challenged yourself than an ACT score.
I also want to do actuarial science, and while MIT is good for math and engineering, it’s not really geared towards that field. I applied to some other science and actuarial science summer programs***, and quite honestly I will now be conflicted if I get into one of those because I’ll have the choice:
•Go to MITES and look stellar on college apps, but apply to actuarial schools (Penn State, UCSB, Drake, etc) and realize I don’t like actuarial science and have to switch fields or
•Do an actuarial science 6 week program, figure out I don’t like it and start applying to other colleges instead of wasting all that time senior year
•Do an actuarial science 6 week program, fall in love with the field as I see what it’s about, and now look THAT much better on a college app to an actuarial science school (considering I was thinking about it all the way from Junior year)
***There are only 1300 actuaries in the whole world, most people don’t know who they are, so in this case, it is a big deal that a major this specific would have someone interested all the way from junior year compared to any pre med, engineering, etc type of field that is widely known.
I’m with PoisonIvy- does anyone else have the link for the MITES FB Group?
@AdrianF24 , I emailed the MITES people to see if they’ll let us take the ACT in Boston, so if you want I can let you know how that goes
@AdrianF24 I don’t see how MITES could hurt you in any way, shape or form. Because of its selectivity, MITES can only enhance your application.
Just my humble opinion
Btw, Congrats!
@ZucchiniSoup, I want to you take a step back and realize that you’re turning this into a black and white scenario with data you don’t really have, and will never be able to collect. What proof do you have that “more than enough applied to fill some of these spots”, you may not and for all you know whites/asians only made up a small percentage of the pool and having one sprinkled here and there does reflect the breakdown numbers? You’re making some pretty big assumptions here, bud.
Also the " Additionally, if you look at picture of MITES from last year there is not a single white or Asian person. I am sure there are enough disadvantaged white and Asian people to fill those spots." is a pretty incorrect statement. You’re expecting people to “look” white. You don’t know what they identify as. (And as long as we’re assuming things, are we looking at the same picture because there’s definitely some people in there who you can visibly assume to be asian or white.)
Also, diversity and under-representation is a really broad thing. Instead of breaking things down by ethnicity and social status, I’d encourage you to add in geographical factors, socio-economic, gender, parental education levels, and what ever else info they asked you all for because the beauty of holistic admissions (which MIT is awesome at) ALL OF THAT MATTERS.
FYI, in my MITES class we had 6 people who you could VISIBLY identify as asian by western standards, but if we add in Indian (because yes, that’s also asian) you’re looking at a higher number… and there was a handful that you’d assume to be something else even though they were Asian. The cohort number was <65.
It’s hard not hearing good news, and it’s hard to be happy for other people when you’re not, but if people don’t state their ethnicities from the get-go on their replies don’t be pushy. You’re literally ALL amazing people, I’m sure of it, and you’re going to go on and do great things. This program doesn’t define futures. You’ll be okay.
Sad to say got rejected from all three
Does anybody know if triple rejection foreshadows college admission chances for ivies?
