MIT website temporarily unavailable

Though, EA, the situation WAS slightly different. The server kept going down the weekend before the deadline. It was fine ON the actual deadline.

I expect they’ll extend it with no punishment. Even though it would technically be better for ME if they didn’t. :P

oic lol. I dont think it mattered then, but looking back on the thread that was made for EA, it appears that it was extended 1 or 2 days before the actual deadline.

It seems to be slowly letting me on now…yay!

It would be fun to see your second choices… if MIT was your first choice… and you haven’t been able to submit.

I’m just tired and I still need to finish an essay for another school!

MIT was my first choice when I was a junior, it slipped behind Carnegie Mellon, so I’m not too worried if I dont get in.

I am like 80% positive that they will accept it tomorow…I mean i tried to submit mine at 9:30 and the server was down…

What makes you like CMU more (BTW which school(s) did you apply to… within CMU and overall)… CMU is second best next to MIT for what I want to do.

Meh, I went ahead and decided not to apply to CMU though it was up there. I just can’t take the hills in Pittsburg, and I’ve got relatives that would obligate me to crawl out of my corner fairly often.

Oh yeah, and this is for Mechanical Engineering.

I’m gonna do Architecture. CMU has a 5 year B. Arch program, while MIT requires graduate school. Also, CMU has a 5+1 which will get me 2 proffessional degrees (B. Arch and M. Arch). I can get the M. Arch in a number of specific fields, but the one which I want to do, Sustainable Design, is ranked as the #1 sustainable design program in the nation.

I also just love the feel of the CMU campus and its closer to whitewater than MIT. CMU is only 2 hours away from killer Whitewater (Youghiogheny) which is a huge plus.

anyone else find it ironic that these internet problems are happening (again) to the world’s greatest “tech” university

^^That is hilarious

Hey, MIT has the W3C which basically means they own the internet.

As far as I’m concerned, MIT can do whatever the heck it wants.

Edit: Good night.

MIT should “revolutionize” online apps…

Yargg… I applied to CMU… and at first I thought it was just another school because of it’s acceptance rate… but I’m starting to think I was very wrong.

Yeah, it has a high acceptance rate, but a lot of that is self selectiveness, not many people know the name and those who do often know it because of its acclaim in certain fields.

When I visited, everyone there seemed incredibly interested, friendly, and seemed to enjoy the school, not to mention very smart. Add to that its good rank/reputation and a great campus. Thats all I want.

The website is a turn-off though… but I dont like MIT’s website too much either.

Their front page is horrible, I agree. Once you go to certain pages within it though, CMU’s site is alot nicer.

<a href=“Home - Computing Services - Office of the CIO - Carnegie Mellon University”>Home - Computing Services - Office of the CIO - Carnegie Mellon University; for example.

Yargg, why does that take my to microsoft.com? Lmao.

Edit: You fixed it :p

an extra http messed it up.

Oh yeah I remember looking at that page… it’s totally awesome … but I forgot it was CMU (heh… hard to associate with the main page)… browsing around I can now see some of the other pages are better.

I did like MIT’s deck-of-cards animation/video… and the website right now looks “okay”

— I cant wait to finish these apps!!.. I dont care where I end up… I just want to be in college already … heh!

BTW: Only downside for CMU are the male to female ratios… too lopsided

The important thing is not to go crazy over this. It’s done and done, if they accept applications late (or past the deadline), that’s great… but storming the admissions office (via phone or physically) is really not a good idea, and will likely just keep the adcom busy and aggravated, and may slow down (or stop) whatever steps they’re taking to get everything moving (if any).

So yeah, remain calm. What’s done is done, now all you can do is hope the site comes back and then wait.

I just fedex it tonight with Next Day service … yeah, I was one of the lucky ones who downloaded a pdf of their application :D
