MITChris - What do you take notes on?

so hey MITChris, I know you take notes on notable parts of an application (such as, as you mentioned elsewhere, insane # of APs). Can you give some specifics on exactly what you would take notes on, for example: shows high initiative, demonstrates genuine passion toward something… etc.
danks!

Not really. Those things you mentioned, but the list of variables is practically infinite…

But usually… what kind of things do you take notes on? Obviously not things like how funny a name sounds… but a general area of things you take notes on?

I doubt that even that question is meaningfully answerable.

I’m guessing MIT is particularly interested in things that are mentioned [here.

I found an”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/383950-post2.html]an awesome post with more specifics](http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/schools/what_we_look_for/index.shtml) on our very own College Confidential, though it’s pretty old so things may have changed. (A lot of the info here is supported by articles from the Tech (including [this one](http://tech.mit.edu/V119/N13/admissions.13f.html)), so I think it’s pretty trustworthy, though maybe outdated.)

[Here](<a href="http://tech.mit.edu/V124/N47/Admissioncopytif.47p.html]Here's">http://tech.mit.edu/V124/N47/Admissioncopytif.47p.html)'s</a> a picture of the summary card, if you can read that. I remember being able to find a more readable scan of an actual E-3 card online last year, but since I can’t find it now I’m guessing it got taken down.

We haven’t used those E3 cards in years.

And there I was feeling so knowledgeable…

I’ve been wondering, can students view their summary cards when they arrive on campus? Or are they still destroyed because too many people want to read them and it’s annoying to Sharpie out everything that pertains to recommendations? I’m curious to see how I was summarized.

hmmm. following another link and the Tech its seems possible if you enroll. I am not sure anymore…

@lidusha -

You can’t see your equivalent of E3 cards.

So do you guys still do these “Numerical Index” and “Personal rating” scores? I thought the apps are read without any type of “number-crunching”. And it doesn’t seem that these numbers take into account of any individual background.
