MITES 2010 Information & Discussion

Are there any non URM on this thread? I’m south asian.

@magi11, i was reading MITES '09 too. We could get our letters any day now!! :S

Ugh, I’m really sad that I don’t have a backup plan instead of MITES. MITES is obviously the best, so I kept putting off the other apps…and I ended up never submitting anything else…bad idea.

decisions are so close…
Do you really think they’re about to mail the stuff? Yeah, I read that too… the decisions came out earlier than the actual date it was supposed to. hmm i doubt I’ll get in.

@lexluthor
Yeah, I’m not a urm. I’m south asian too.

I really hope they send the decisions out sooner. This wait is horrible, I can’t stop thinking about this…Hah, I guess I know what I’ll feel like next year waiting for college decisions. :/
I wonder how many applicants there were this year? The number usually rises every year…

I have a feeling that this year the decision will NOT be early. Remember all of the snow we had and how they extended the deadline for some people?

That alone is going to probably make the decisions come out right on time. My guess is they will mail them sometime next week and people will begin to receive them Thursday of next week.

Someone told me you could use the MITES app for SSP. Is that true?

The website says decisions will come out on the 19th…

I emailed the woman and she just repeated the same thing in the confirmation email: We’ll get them by the 16th.

Yo Lex I was checking your posts to see your stats and I couldn’t help but laugh at one of your posts.

“@ivyhopeful2014. You got in b/c you’re black. It’s that simple. Look at all these valedictorians being rejected. We live in a biased world where diversity statistics matter more to a college’s admission committee than intelligence.”

Would you really be happy at MITES with so many URM’s, who according to your standards don’t deserve to be there?

@somead896 ■■■■■, thats soooo funny! lol.
but thats kinda truee… good thing i’m hispanic  && salutatorian :stuck_out_tongue: haha.

I’m not trying to be mean I honestly though it was funny. But if you get in Lex, and I hope you do, you might learn that some of the URM’s deserve to be there.

Wow I haven’t been on here in forever. But just like everyone else, I’m anxious to find out if I got in. Just think that in one week, we’ll have our replies. Well good luck to everyone!! :)

Yea that’s true

Ouch. That was a harsh (but deserved) call out.

I miss those days of being 1st in my class :(. My rank has been on a steady decline. Nobody in my class has kept 1st for more than a semester until this past one.

Agreed with jbrown - I didn’t really want to say it like that, but really lex, that attitude isn’t even constructive. I’m not even applying anymore, and I really do want everyone else to get in. Still just don’t know what to say in the face of comments like “congrats for being hispanic.” Nice attempted save too…

“@hpaero. lemme rephrase it. it helps admission when you’re not as qualified as the other applicants. but there are plenty of overqualified hispanic individuals too. i’m not discriminating. i’m just saying, it helps admission and we can’t do anything about it.”

Final word is why even apply to MITES if that’s how you feel? Just go for a nonminority program like RSI.

And for jbrown, not even sure what class rank I am, but I feel like a lot of top kids at my school have been slipping recently, including myself! It’s frustrating having all these responsibilities and commitments come together right at the end of the year… standardized testing (SAT/SATII/AP) of course among other things.

I got a response from Mites that the decisions were sent out yesterday so we should get them before the 16th.

hopefully they are in by tomorrow, but that’s too early, maybe on monday?

Yeah I was way out of line for saying that. I mean there are definitely people that really deserve to get to these schools. But go look at the person’s stats(the person who I addressed in the post). I mean I see these USAMO and AMC people not making it but this guy made it. I really didn’t mean to generalize about everyone. I was just agitated that he could make it when all these other great people are getting rejected. But I guess thats just MIT admissions. I really regret saying that and it was just a spur of the moment out of anger thing. And I’m really sorry to anyone who I offended on this thread.

@somead896 MITES decisions were sent out!? AHH! Yeah, some will probably get them on Monday…:S. I’M SCARED! :O

oh no.

my heart just dropped and I don’t even know my decision yet.

I remember looking at a past thread, and they rejected IB Diploma Candidates because they have already been afforded a great opportunity.

Guess what I am. :/
