An A in an Ap class averages a 6 in ur weighted GPA. an honors class averages a 5. Also dual enrollment averages 6s into ur Gpa. As for me I have taken 10 Ap courses and 54 credits in a community college. That all averages out into my 5.77 gpa. dont ask how. lol. i dont argue the numbers. lmao.

but the valevictorian this year in my school has a 7.2 o.O so idk how it goes over 6 but it does. someway. lmao.

guezmike, that sounds crazy. you’ll be done with college before you graduate high school! haha, jk.

So is florida the only state that’s gotten acceptances? hmm. I’m in Michigan, so I don’t feel too worried that I didn’t get it yet…soooo nervous for tomorrow!

I completely agree with splitting it up into two 5-week programs! But, it’s a little late for us. oh well. Anyone know of other summer programs I could apply to that are still accepting apps?

wow, that’s a different grading scale from me (I think from most schools). Weighted, it’s like 5.0 for an A in AP class, 4.5 for an A in honors. All out of 4.0.
10 AP classes??? wow that’s a lot! Are you guys allowed to take them starting freshman year?

We have a 4.2 for honors, and a 4.4 for AP. But they really only calculate our gpas out of 100, so the 4.0 system confuses me a bit. It’s a lot different from at my school I guess. Is there a reason why they don’t standardize it to make it easier for colleges?

I second what MIT 15 said about other programs, I’m getting very anxious since people so much farther than me already have acceptances. I’m having trouble remembering why I thought I had a chance of getting in :/

yup. The dual enrollement program allows us to graduate high school with our associates degree. It’s great for my school because no1 goes to any out of state schools. So getting your associates from Miami Dade college allows automatic admission to UF and FSU. So it benefits them that way. Becuz if u see the SAT scores from my school -.- my 1420 was by far the highest ever. And yet the valevictorian rhis year has a 7.2 but a 1240 SAT. So it’s annoying to think about but then again it is a system. You have to play it correctly. But In my case MIT or Caltech (where I want to go) don’t take any credits from there. So I’d start brand new when I get to MIT (if I do).

Also. I was unaware of the fact that different schools have different grading schemes. I think it’s by county actually. Like your specific county has it’s school board that decides the system. Cuz all the school around here have the same system.

And @hpaero
they let us take one Ap in 9th. Ap world. I’m no much of a history person I’m not even sure how I got a 3 on that exam. Sophomore year I took 2 (European history becuz Its mandatory in my school for sophomores and Ap biology which I loved and got a 5) I’m taking 7 Aps this year.

Wow. Honestly thinking about all the different systems it’s no wonder why they stress class rank so much. Because universities can’t compare people from different states becuz the systems are different. They can only measure you from your colleagues.

My name is Robert Julien and I participated in MITES 2009. For those who have been accepted, if you have any questions I will be more than willing to answer them. MITES will be the most incredible experience of your life, but if you are not absolutely willing to work harder than ever before then the MITES program is not for you. I am happy to know that the MITES family will be growing even more this year with the addition of MITES 2010.

By the way, congrats to Guezmike, Labrat5, Paledot, iHeartCalculus, and the rest who should be finding out relatively soon.

I have a kind of random question. I’m from Florida. Does it get cold in Boston in the summer? I’m used to the blazing sun everyday here In Miami.

Oh and another question. I want to takethe Ap physics B and Ap physics C exams. Which of the 3 physics offered In MITES do u think will prepare me for that?

@guezmike
Ohhh, i get it now. =) 7 APs this year? wow. I know of one person who’s doing that in my school.

Yeah I think it’s by county. My whole county has the same grading scale but the county right next to me has a slightly different one. Plus, my school doesn’t have ranking so it kind of… sucks since it’s all based on our gpa and SAT scores.

@MIT15
Ahh, I’m in the same boat.
I have a stupid question… or at least I think it’s stupid. If I wasn’t home and there was a package from USPS, but it couldn’t fit into the mailbox (i live in an apartment), would they leave a note or something?..

I got into my mom’s car and she was holding a pakage. it was supposed to be announced on next monday and the pakage was rather thing (9-10 pages) so i thought maybe they needed some more stuffs.

I opened. OMG. GOT IN. they said they picked out of 1200 people this year. i still believe how they emailed a week EARLY!

I was dying at school b/c today was YESS day. but my first choice were MITES and Questbridge so yea. DONE.

I also got one from Clark Scholar. Rejected. They wrote that they picked 12 out of 180 applicants. W.e. i wanted MITES from the start. YAY!!!

I called MITES earlier and they said a lot of letters probably haven’t arrived yet because they mailed some out on Friday too. But all letters should have arrived by the 16th. I’m not sure if this means rejection ones too? I think so, because she said I could call back on Friday if I hadn’t received anything…

GA, when i chekced the states distrubution when i applied, i remember seeing only 1 person from GA so I thought I had almost no chance (alot were from MA). My letter is marked as April 8, 2010, so I am guessing you they did send it out on friday.
