MITES 2010 Information & Discussion

hmmm looks like they’re not doing fly-ins this year… ?

@hpaero1 did you get accepted??

@xephyr
Um, no clue. I haven’t received anything yet and I live in VA which is kind of not that far from MA, so it’s most likely a rejection.

@hpaero1 how were your scores and stuff???

@hpaero1…how do you know no fly-ins?

yes, i’m a minority for engineering.

@hpaero1, yeah i was wondering about that too. wonder why?

@robert18: where from!
and i havent heard anything:(
do u think u will get in?

@xephyr

@TQSMNTASP
Haha, i don’t. I’m kind of wondering if there are any or not.

@MIT15
Yeah… we’ll find out soon.

I just saw this and thought it was a good idea to get some questions out of the way. I got my letter of acceptance this last Saturday (2 days ago) and I’m pretty excited, but, here’s the thing: I live in NYC and all students in New York State are required to take final exams known as the Regents in several subjects. Because of the program start date, I’d have to miss 2 Regents tests, and today asking around in school I heard that I couldn’t miss those tests!

Anyone here a MITES alumn from NY? What did you do about the Regents? Can one arrive a little late to the program? Advice please!!

Congrats to everyone else who got in. Really looking forward to this summer!

@lalace42 i’m from SOUTH SOUTH SOUTH texas :stuck_out_tongue: like 5 mins. away from mexico lol. idk if you’ve heard of it… but i live in the valley lol. and what about you?

I’m hoping i get in… i’m hispanic :smiley: ■■■■■. my essays were okay… same for my courses i’m taking this year and stuff… the only thing i’m extremely scared of… is my PSAT scores they were HORRIBLE!!

@robert18: immmm from san antonio(: and idt i have heard of it.
what were ur scores? mine were pretty bad too. im sure ur overrrrrrreactttting(:

@MIT 15 yeahh I’m Hispanic.

@ everyone:
DOn’t ya wonder why we’re on here? lol

If you have the curiosity and anticipation to even go online and find more about this program, that just shows how much dedication/ obsession you can get into for something you’re passionate about.

Reading my words right now means that you’re special. You care and value your future and for many people, you want to make this world a better place and give it the best you can.

And like many people on here you’ve waited or are waiting for a decision that you really had no control over. When you receive that letter, whether it be an acceptance letter, rejection letter, or waitlist letter or if you have received it, remember the importance of pursuing your aspirations and making good decisions because unlike this application process, you’re going to be the one making the decisions to keep going and to keep making the right choices throughout your life.

In the end, how you shape it is what matters.

I love you all in a non-creepy way :smiley:
(heheh…I was considering not posting this because it’s kind of…odd. But oh well. )

@hpaero1 ok youre about where i am roughly. i hope we make it :)

@lalace42 ohh i was just in san antonio today!! lol. for State Science Fair! haha. were you there?! ■■■■■. Yeah no ones heard of the valley :confused: haha. Seriously i’m NOT overreacting haha. i dont wanna say out loud :stuck_out_tongue: lol.

@anavazquez aw. ily2 :smiley: thanks for the support! and you are so right!! :smiley: btw. did you get accepted?

@anavasquez
well said :slight_smile: ive been reading some of the people who got reject’s posts and I want to tell u guys not to loose hope. This program only accepts 70 kids but MIT next year accepts much more than that! im inclined to say that theyll accept somewhere around 1000 kids but im sure many of you know more about the Stats than i do. So just stay positive! :)

@anavasquez
Aw, that was nice! Thanks. =)
Not odd at all.

@xephyr
haha i hope… but a rejection wouldn’t be that bad knowing that I tried my best. I just don’t like waiting.

@Robert: I wish I KNEW if I got accepted. Im sooo soo anxious, since no one on here is from IL! :confused: (and because I haven’t signed up for other summer programs… whooppsss)

I didn’t do very well on the PSAT either (64 math), and my plan score from sophomore yr was mediocre…

Hey, to those who were rejected, when were your letters posmarked?

@anavazquez i’m so anxious too :confused: i’m sure you’ll get a letter soon :smiley: i haven’t signed up for other summer programs either! haha. ughh lol.

I got a 63 on my Math for PSAT, and my PLAN score was alright as well… 28 on Math, and a 23 in science :/

@hpaero1 & guezmike thanks haha well I think it’s odd because I don’t know any of you, yet I know what we’re all experiencing :slight_smile: anxiousness haha whatever that word sounds better than anxiety, dontcha think? yes.

no news is NOT better than bad news.
