MITES 2013 Discussion

I’ll tell you guys how I found Rivstein.

Since he told us his name and that he lives north of Orlando, I went on Google Maps and looked at places where he might live so then I went on Facebook and searched his name under like 30 towns until I found him x)

Also, I don’t use Leviticus anywhere else so I doubt anyone can find me :P

I’ll expose myself later though :)

Sent from my DROIDX using CC

Guys, why do you think we were asked if we knew past MITES participants or folks at MIT in our app?

Rivstein, Nope, catch me if you can.

*Regardless of their decisions, I truly respect the admissions councils of pretty much every selective organization out there. It must be hard to reject so many talented candidates.

@Hoctopi: Yeah, I definitely agree with you. Honestly, it has to be really tough rejecting so many amazing applicants. Remember it is MIT though, so I’m sure they’re used to it and know what to look for…

Lol, way to suck up Hoctopi and MerelyDetermined…

Let me give it a go…

I truly admire every admissions representative in every institution in the United States, not just the selective ones. You are all a very dedicated group of people whom share a profound passion for the education of America’s youth. Thanks to you and your flawless judgement, America’s next great leaders will rise out of the ashes of giants. The future of our country is in great hands…

looks dramatically into the sunlight

@Rivstein: I like it; very well written :). I hope the MITES admissions council saw that haha

I offer a different strategy:

My admission or your life. You have 8 days to choose. Choose wisely!

Watch there really be an admissions rep on here that goes to the rest of the council: “Well, cross his name off of the list. We thought he was a good fit but that one College Confidential post is telling of his character.”

Dear run1116,

Although you were a very qualified applicant, we are sorry to inform you that will not be admitted to MITES in the year of our lord, two thousand thirteen. The reason being: We do not negotiate with terrorists, nor do we respond to threats. Please do the world a favor and cease to exist.

Dear Rivstein,

With all the crazy %&#$ you’ve said, you better hope that my offense isn’t something to be worried about! Otherwise you are in deep trouble, haha.

Spoiler alert:
[#YOMO by Angel Ramos on Prezi](<a href=“#YOMO by Angel Ramos”>#YOMO by Angel Ramos)

Goodness, I’m finally caught up after not logging on for two days…

@Riv You’ll never find my identity! I used a username that I haven’t used since I was in elementary school and has a minimal amount of significance to my person. Muahahaha.

@Run Chess is one of many passions in life! Although I’m not the best at it (especially when it’s online and I can’t see the board itself), I’ve loved it since my dad first introduced it to me when I was in kindergarten. I just made an account on chess.com (same username so people on here can find me) and I’ll add you. I know a couple of other people have also started games, so add me too! I also prefer to play live, so PM me or something whenever you wanna play.

Oh, and on our previous topic of having seen each other at competitions… I recently remembered that I sat not 5 feet from you at a NS competition at my school! Weird.

I’ve never said anything crazy. The things I’ve said have been jokes/controversial statements susceptible to criticism coming from those of you whom are easily butthurt.

@Areo/Run: Well, I know for sure that I haven’t seen either of you at a UIL competition, since this is my first year participating. I might see the two of you at Baylor, though! Hopefully, by that time, we’ll have all gotten accepted into MITES ;P

@ThirtyThr33: THAT PREZI. I don’t know anyone from MITES 2012, but that was still depressing.

So guys, I am in need of some suggestions. Lately I’ve been listening to classical music (piano solos.) Can anyone recommend some good ones? I prefer piano solos. I haven’t searched very much so there are many composers and pieces I have not heard, so my depth is very limited, and that is one reason why I am asking for suggestions. To get a feel of what I like, here are a few examples, if you are familiar with them, of pieces that I like:

Debussy - Clair de Lune, Arabesque No. 1
Chopin - Nocturnes Op.9 No.2, Op.27 No.2, Op.72 No. 1, Op.55 No.2
Beethoven - Fur Elise, Pathetique 2nd movement

I’m sure some of you have heard these and more, so if you can somehow get a feel for what I like and can suggest something, that would be great! Thanks to anyone who can offer something.

Also, @Rivstein, I know, just messing around. You’re good.

@Aero: great, then you definitely know who I am and I possibly am familiar with you. I still don’t know who you are though, although I will find out sooner or later.

@Hoctopi: At Baylor, you’ll see me at science, and maybe other places if you are with teammates or something similar. Here are some clues to identify me:

Fairly tall (~6’2")

I look like a light-skinned black guy, half black/half asian

My first name starts with a W

I go to a magnet school, which you will most definitely see while at Baylor unless you don’t attend awards or leave ASAP or something.

I will have several medals on me, if it is late enough into the day, considering current scoring trends and last year’s results.

Because I may not recognize you, you should come up to me and introduce yourself if you are given the opportunity. If I recognize you, I will try to come talk to you as well. Hopefully, both of us get into MITES!

@run: LISTEN TO MORE STRINGS. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
As for piano solos… my favorite is Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor. 1st movement. 14-15 minutes of awesome. Since it IS a concerto, it’s backed by an orchestra. To be honest, I don’t know of very many pieces meant to be played with JUST the piano.
Other than that, I can offer a BUNCH of orchestral and chamber pieces. Based on your preferences, you’d probably like anything by Vaugh Williams. Maybe Sibelius. Just let me know if you’d like any orchestral/ensemble selections, and I will happily oblige :)

@ThirtyThr33 That prezi made me tear up. I wanna go to MITES!!! D’x

@Run I recommend just about any number by Johann Sebastian Bach and look up a song called “river flows in you,” I forgot who plays it, but it’s beautiful.

@OzzyArmas: I think “River Flows in You” is by Yiruma.
