MITES 2013 Discussion

I’m loving how as the decision draws nearer, we’ve gone from this[/url”>http://www.igorwaver.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/isay.jpg]this to this. lol

Run1116, I should get around to that chess game sometime >.>

Rivstein[/url”>http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/417/526/dd7.jpg]Rivstein

@run: Well. I’ve found you. Not planning on exposing you, though. XD
Impressive performance at UIL, by the way; only missed two questions?

Oh, building on run1116’s question, what’s everyone’s favorite type of music?

I’m a big fan of electronica, particularly trance and house, but I do enjoy rock’s various sub-genres, as well as some hip-hop and jazz.

*In science

@MobiusUno: Classical, indie, soft rock, alternative, and acoustic+vocals.

1000x yes to Hoctopi. Full orchestras are gorgeous. I can help a lot in that category. As for piano, anything Debussy is amazing. Hoctopi beat me to Schumann’s piano concerto, haha. Also, try movie scores. They’re surprisingly satsifying. Some of my favorite include Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (Hans Zimmer<3), How to Train Your Dragon (personal favorite), Howl’s Moving Castle, and Danny Elfman’s Alice in Wonderland. Each have their own feel to it, so let me know if you want more info or suggestions. I’ll try to compile a list of piano and orchestral arrangements that I’ve found in my years of music obsession.

Also, I’m up for a live chess match right now for anyone interested. I’m doing homework, so I’ll just sit next to the computer. Same username, so add me!

@Hoctopi you are correct, thank you! :)

@MobiusUno Lmao that is completely right, happens to me whenever I meet someone. The closer they get, the worse it gets. And your analogy for Rivstein is accurate; I have the feeling that if he gets into MITES, he will be involved in a hack.

As for Music, I am a rock/heavy metal person and a Taylor Swift fan lol. I do not listen to anything that involves a really high dosage of screamo or pop rock/ pop in general. I also like some techno and dubstep; preferably dubstyle. As for rap, I only like ONE song: Remember the Name, by Fort Minor. Editting because I forgot to mention I enjoy classical as well, just not something I would listen to on my own will. If someone plays it, I’ll listen and enjoy (It’s a strange relationship).

Music! Yay.<3 umm, personally… I’ve always been an indie fan, but I love a wide range of different genres. It just depends on how I feel. Electronica claims a large portion of my library, as does orchestral music (including movie scores). Since I’m a sax player, jazz is a must. Sometimes I just stumble on obscure music that has no genre such as Sigur R

Related topic: guilty pleasures? Mine are Kid Cudi and P!nk (stop laughing).

@run1116: When it comes to classical music, I like piano solos as well. My personal favorite is:
Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata - 3rd Movement (Sonata No.14 C# minor)

Let me know what you think :)

@Mobius: Rock and more rock, especially Christian (note: I’m not religious) & soft; I’m also a fan of singer-songwriters. My favorite bands are probably Breaking Benjamin, Chase Coy, the Cab, SafetySuit, Parachute, and Three Days Grace. I concentrate in jazz piano, and I’m also a fan of classical, R&B, some rap (I love Eminem)… I appreciate basically every genre, to a degree, although I can’t really handle metal (unless it’s ‘‘weak’’ metal like Bullet for My Valentine).

@MerelyDetermined: I just put that on my phone (I don’t use an iPod or anything like that) maybe an hour ago, and as I read your post and began to form this response, it was playing in my ears.

@Hoctopi: interesting, how did you find out who I was? If it’s too detailed in that it would allow others to do the same, nevermind. That’s at least two that know who I am, and I would bet there’s a few lurkers who have figured it out too.

I just figured something out; I gave out one piece of information that will definitely expose some of my activities online, and I didn’t even realize it. Wow. Well… can’t edit, it’s only a matter of time before someone figures my actual identity out, if anyone wants to. I ask to keep it a secret for now, at least, though.

Also, it feels a bit weird to think that behind all of you, there’s an actual living, breathing person with all sorts of interests, a unique personality and a whole range of qualities beyond your username and short posts. For those of us that get into MITES, I’m sure it will be very excited to meet each other, as well as those that have not been on CC.

Probably Feed Me - One Click Headshot and Death by Robot @_@

I’m a saxophone player as well! What type do you play, and what’s the make and model? I’m currently using a 1925 Buescher True Tone Alto I came across, and it plays pretty well.

@Run’sLastParagraph: Weird, maybe. Fascinating? Absolutely. I always see things like that, and I simply cannot fathom it. Every person we make eye contact with, every car we pass by, every single one of the ~2000 applicants for MITES… each have their own story so similar yet so different from ours. Mind-blowing.

lldm, yeah I have favorites in a lot of genres, I just can’t handle screamo though…I’ve yet to hear anything I really like.

DID SOMEONE SAY PIANO?!
I love piano.
Look up Beethoven’s “Rage over a lost penny”, “Turkish March”(It is not the Mozart one) transcribed for piano by Rachmaninoff, Waldstein Sonata, Listen to all of Moonlight sonata including the fast paced third movement (actually scratch that listen to all 32 sonatas in full length, they are amazing), to top it off listen to the Piano Concerto no5 this one always blows me away
For Mozart look up Fantasy in Dminor, just look up a random sonata they are all pretty awesome XD, look up his variations twinkle twinkle little star
For Chopin look at his Grande Polonaise Brillante, Fantasy impromptu, heroic polonaise, most of his nocturnes, his piano sonata (granted he only has a few), and military polonaise
For Liszt look up la Campanella, his transcriptions of the Beethoven symphonies, and Hungarian Rhapsody NO.2
For Rachmaninoff his piano concerto no.2 is a MUST and so are his preludes
As for Bach if you want to feel sophisticated listen to his complex fugues.

Just my two cents on music. I could go on for ever but I will stop here. :3

@MobiusUno: Sax-five! I play tenor, and I just bought my new P. Mauriat PMXT 66R on Wednesday! I love it’s versatility and tone. I actually wanted the Keilwerth SX90R (shadow lacquer, of course), but it was well out of my budget.

Oh, @Hoctopi, both of those questions, by the way, were in biology. If that test wasn’t so easy, I would’ve definitely done worse. Bio is my weak point. I only say this because you mentioned you were going to Region in biology, so I assume that’s your strong (or strongest) point.

BTW… I like how you guys were looking for me on Facebook, but did you not see the link I posted several pages back? It was a picture of my head photoshopped onto some other dude’s body.

I have music from pretty much every genre, but mostly acoustic songs and ballads. Like, I’ll listen to hardcore bands, but only their softer, non-screamo stuff. Most of the upbeat stuff I listen to is Latin dance music. I also loooove Frank Sinatra, Maroon 5, John Mayer, and Ascend the Hill.

Guilty Pleasures: the Jonas Brothers (I’ve loved them since middle school xD) and Broadway show tunes (the Wicked, Fiddler on the Roof, and Chicago soundtracks are my current favorites)
