Osopopin: I’m an Indian… I don’t think that’s a URM. I’m not first gen in college either, but I’m the first in my family to be raised in America. Haha oh well, MITES is worth a try anyway XD

I’ve been posting really sporadically, but I wish I visited this forum more often - I seem to have missed out on some friggin’ awesome conversations.

@jsmathwiz…

Are you a parent posing as a student? Is it you that wasn’t first gen back in the 1970’s or are you referring to your daughter?
(yes, I stalked your post history)

@Rivstein hahahahahaha

apparently jsmathwiz is a dad.

Guys, I got accepted to SSP!

Last night I had a terrible nightmare that decisions came out and i got into none of them.
Now, I have hope.

Only MITES left for me…
I’m going to pray for at least an alternative option for summer…

I’m scared :(

@Jhansen Congratulations!

I just want to know already! I think I can handle the rejection, but I hate that my summer plans are contingent on whether I get accepted or rejected.

I didn’t apply anywhere else, but if I don’t get in, I’m probably going to Chile for a month to visit family. At least I won’t be at home sulking over not being at MITES!

@jhansen: Congrats! :)

@Jhansen Congrats!!!

Rivstein, why must you stalk? lol I understand the reason is evident, but still lol.

I think we all know Riv wouldn’t be Riv if it weren’t for is erratic behavior :P

about 4 days left…Where’s that countdown again? lol…

I got into SSP as well! That’s excellent, gives me hope and makes me know that RSI isn’t indicative of all programs. I’ll take MITES and my local internship over it though.

At the very least, ego boost, haha. Congrats to you, jhansen, as well!

Congrats to you too!
I wish I had some sort of ego boost like that, as time approaches I feel a little more desperate Dx.

MobiusUno you are right…

Oh, and no guys, I am not first gen either. The closest I get is that my mom was born in Japan, though she never became a US citizen. Don’t worry about first gen status so much! There are PLENTY of people who get in that are not first generation. Are there people there that are first gen? Yes. That doesn’t mean you have no shot if you aren’t. If you have good scores, good recs, good essays, good grades, and can show a passion/potential in STEM and really stand out to the MITES admissions staff, along with a couple hooks (maybe low income, first gen, URM, etc.) you’ll be fine. A non first-gen Hispanic with not-so-high income, for example, that is a strong applicant has an excellent chance. If you don’t get in, it’s not just because you’re not first gen.

I’m really hoping for decisions to come out before the 15th.

If I don’t get in is definitely from one (or both) of two recommendations: Counselor, you already know why; Math teacher, she openly said she disliked me the other day.

Sorry, this is the first thing that crossed my mind when I read run’s post.

Now if only MITES admissions kept to the original deadline, lol.

Oh well, more waiting

Ozzy, both of my teacher and my councillor love me for some reason.
I’ve yet to figure out what exactly it is @_@

Proud lurker and mom here:) anyway i’ve been reading since the beginning but never made an acct until today. You are all humorous and it sounds like any of you will be great candidates! I hope decisions come soon!!!
chalk 1 up for Ohio
