MITES 2013 Discussion

@Ozzy dude! my vocab kills me too :(

GUYS

I think the parent that posted earlier was right.

I was looking at the 2012 thread and it appears that decisions rolled out on April 11th at midnight EST. If they keep the same date (which I really hope they do, but we can’t be sure) then that means in about 1.5 hours.

If they at least keep the midnight thing the same, maybe tomorrow. Maybe Sunday night. Oh man haha

Whoops, accidentally hit submit instead of preview. Anyways, reading is pretty difficult, and it helps if you’re a naturally good (or experienced) reader (of course.) I don’t think it’s very easy to study for the SAT, besides simple things like vocabulary and grammar rules. Lots of it is your environment, and natural intelligence. I wonder if you could raise your scores simply by talking properly, as well as typing properly, instead “ov tawking lyk dis”. That must be very damaging to any form of grammar you could use on the SAT, especially if it’s consistent.

Can you guys believe that all of our fates have already been decided, and there is nothing we can do about it? It still amazes me at times.

Also, out of curiosity, how many times have you guys taken the SAT/ACT?

@futureengineer: I agree with Ozzy. I like you :)

Are you taking it for the first time?

I wish they would have let us update our SAT/ACT scores after the application deadline. I mean, I would imagine most juniors would only have taken one or at most two of either by January 15th.

So guys, I have figured it out. It says they are releasing decisions in mid-April. It turns out that MITES will be releasing decisions around April 15, 2014. Don’t get too excited yet, we still have about 370 days or so to go.

I’ve taken the SAT once, taking the ACT this saturday (wish me luck)!

Surprising my scores from greatest to least were reading, math, and then writing. I’m usually a math/science person so I’m interested to see how the ACT goes.

@run: I have taken the SAT once, thus far. Signed up for the May one, but I do not know if I’m going to take it again in the fall… not sure if it’s worth it, haha. I won’t be taking the ACT, though.

@Lily: Thanks so much! Aww I feel like a family already, and I’ve never met any of you. Hahaha seriously, I can relate to all of you. A group of really passionate, forward thinking people who know how to make a change in the world - and will! :slight_smile: @MS I agree. I’ve taken the SAT once, January and taking the ACT for the first time on Saturday.

I only took the SAT once at the time of the deadline. Since then I’ve taken it again and I took the ACT once. So 2 SAT 1 ACT. I’m happy with my scores so no mo of dat standardized testing!!! Awwww yeaaaah. Except for Math II but I’ll worry about that later.

I’m starting to feel like futurengineer is from the admissions staff and is telling us this to let us down slowly before midnight hits XD. It may just be me over-thinking again.

@romeonachos: For me, it’s always writing, reading, then math (from greatest to least). Ironically, I’m better at reading and writing than I am at math and science. I just like math and science more :P

@future ONE OF US! ONE OF US!
@rome Buenas Suerte chicaaaaaa/chicooooooo
@run Oh you

Honestly, the writing section murders me.

Leviticus…oh god…

futureengi, your officially awesome. :smiley: Best of luck with the test!

Probably panicking due to the fact that this would be the perfect opportunity to not only get out of this town for a good 6 weeks, but to also learn, grow, meet all of you awesome people, etc. It’s just so perfect ‘_’

Once more good luck! Your all amazing, and your all going to be going out into the world to do great things!

I always mess up on the basic concepts of the ACT/SAT and state standardized math tests because I learned them so long ago. I’m sure you guys can relate, since most of you are at least two years ahead in math…

Who else isn’t first gen besides Rivstein and myself?

I read some more into the 2012 thread and I found a girl who got into MITES whose dad has a master’s.

There is hope.

I’m not first gen; my stepdad (does that count?) has a masters in some type of aeronautical science (he’s a pilot).

@lovelylily That is definitely true of the ACT. On the one I took there was this question about ellipses and I was like **? I haven’t learned about ellipses since… probably 8th grade. And then that week we started doing ellipses in calc…areyouseriousface. For the SAT not so much because most of the skills are like bike riding - the ones you never forget once you learn them, for me at least.

@Ozzy: Hahaha seriously you made my day. Rest assured, I am not from the admissions staff and am not letting you all down slowly to avoid the death of any of future’s life-changing people. I would also probably totally leak admissions decisions now. I’m not that mean!

@MS: I feel like one of you guys! It’s awesome! We’re all changing the world one day :slight_smile: whether in Engineering, Science, Tech. or anything else!

My dad has a MBA from a really small Texas state college. My mom and dad both got their bachelor’s in Thailand. None of my family is really involved in science though - they all are in like secondary education or banking.

@MS4211: Exactly! I was doing an ACT practice test and came across a matrix… No idea! Oh, and there was a box and whisker chart thing on the STANFORD test my school gives… I think I learned those in, like, 7th grade. Lol
