MITES 2017

@arinuma who will report you? dm me and ill add you

@planner03 so MITES is…AMAZING…and hard. A typical day for me was classwork from 9am to 5 (with a 1 hour lunch) and around 3-5 hours of homework each evening along with interacting with everyone there (curfew is at 11 and everyone has to be in their rooms by 12:30 I think). Although the workload is definitely tough, it’s manageable once you get a schedule and plan your time. You also learn how to do homework in groups which is extremely important in college (like the material you learn is hard…harder that your hardest AP class condensed into six weeks…and you’ll need the help of other people). If you’re really unprepared, MITES can take a toll on your health, but in the end it’s extremely rewarding once you get the hang of working in a college environment. Also, you won’t be bogged down by extracurriculars outside of intramural sports so you’ll have a lot of time to study and make friends with everyone there. During weekends MITES coordinates an activity or two for everyone but you and your group of friends will also most likely do something on your own (you can literally go anywhere you want in Boston as long as you get back to your dorm by curfew). I was able to explore Harvard, go see Finding Dory, run to Target multiple times, etc. It’s really easy to form social connections there since you’ll be in a “cluster” or around 7-8 kids that has a TA (teaching assistant) mentor. Secondly, you literally live and work with everyone at MITES the whole time you’re there. Like I thought it would be difficult to make friends being a white kid from North Dakota, but by the end of the first week I formed social connections there that were stronger than many of the ones I had at my high school. The most important tip I have for MITES is to simply have an open mind towards what is being thrown at you. Don’t complain about the workload - make the most of it as you work with your classmates and talk with your professors/TAs. I hope this helps. Also you should consider adding me to the MITES 2017 group chat since I want to peek at what’s going on lol.

@planner03 also while I was writing this I momentarily forgot you were a parent so sorry about the informality…maybe that didn’t matter but either way make sure to show this to your son

@jeffrandell No worries I’m already in.
And I meant CC moderators because they might think we are spamming.

@martychondria right now it’s been morphed to a Class of 2018 thread, but there are some MITES 2016 alumni. Give me your email and you can see what craziness we were up to.

@martychondria Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. It sounds very challenging and a bit overwhelming. Lol, like the acceptance email said “MITES is not a summer camp.”

Congrats to those who made MITES/MOSTEC/E2
