OK, here’s another thread to add to the thread count.
Is “Dartmouth” pronounced more as:
a) Dart-mith
b) Dart-myth
c) Dart-muth
d) depends on regional accent, any of the options are ok as long as you don’t pronounce it Dart-mowth.

I think I heard some variations on it when I was at Dimensions, I was wondering if there is an official pronunciation?

sonicyouth, I pronounce it the same way. I hadn’t thought of ‘mith’ as mice, I was thinking of it as pretty similar to ‘myth’ just slightly…different, with a little more emphasis, a little more ‘up’. Or maybe the difference is just in my head…

I’ve only heard Dart-myth and i go here. And i say myth not like a pimp but rather “that’s not true, that’s a myth”. That’s how most people say it around here.
But my vote goes for D, depends where you’re from as long as you don’t say -mouth or like a stuck-up WASP saying “Dahtmoth”.

I live in rural Tennessee. No one here knows what Dartmouth is, let alone how to pronounce it (except for newo b/c he’s from like 1.5 hrs from me). I have heard the following:

Haha, me too, sonicyouth! It can be a pseudo-stuck-up-WASP extravaganza!

The real question is, why am I on here when my term paper is due tomorrow and I have my calc exam? Yeahhh… best of luck to y’all on your AP tests!

I get made fun of for being WASPy from time to time, but I’m not stuck-up. Promise!

[here’s where I try to make a witty comment about all of us being in a Dart-MOTH pseudo-WASP club and just fail… so you can use your imagination and come up with one on your own]
