Is there a job out there that has a mix of math/statistics and geography. I’m a junior, and I have no idea what I want to do. People always say do what you love. Well I love geography and statistics. Are these jobs like urban planner, do stats for the us gov., civil engineer, economist, environmental engineer, urban studies, … what else.
I want ideas as to what careers I could do with a major in math or statistics and a minor in geography, urban studies, or Econ. I do feel like I have to make at least $75,000+ and very importantly have great job growth (I don’t want to be unemployed) so what are some careers that would fit into my wants??
I have a young friend who is in a major St Michigan State that combines computers and mapping – not exactly math, but possibly an area to explore.
Or are there companies like the United Nations Children’s Fund
(UNICEF), the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agricultural Organization
(FAO), the World Bank, center for disease control, US Government etc that would hire high paying statisticians.
Epidemiology can have a statistics & mapping component.
Geographic Information Systems Analyst - putting all kinds of statistics into maps, Marketing Analyst - using geographic data to predict where to do marketing campaigns, Geospatial Analyst/Researcher - statistical modeling with a concern for location
Yep, GIS is a growing field. Understanding stats, database management, some coding, and geography is a dynamite combo.
I worked for a college in their institutional research department. (This is an internal department that researches the university itself.) I used mapping and stats regularly to work on strategic planning.
