Mixed messages re: demonstrated interest

My son applied to a selective pre-college diversity program for juniors but he didn’t get in. I emailed the admissions office to see if they kept track of those who applied for that program for the freshman admissions cycle. An admissions officer emailed that yes, they do keep track of the applicants but they don’t track demonstrated interest. Yet on their Common Data Set, their school reports that Level of Interest is “Considered.”

Can anyone make sense of these mixed messages?

Assume they do.

They are keeping track of your son’s info because they know he would be a great candidate to send college admissions info to – whether or not his actual application is up to snuff is a different matter. I’d say it’s completely a marketing thing (a confirmed list of interested students) – not any eventual boost to a potential application review.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks!

I wonder why their Common Data Set says that they consider level of applicant’s interest, though?
