MMSS with Comp Sci

I’m interested in majoring in Comp Sci and Econ, and the MMSS program seems really interesting. I’m not sure whether I want to go into software or another CS-heavy field, or if I want to do a more quantitative finance job. Is it a viable option to do MMSS along with a CS major without taking a really time-consuming schedule? If so, would I have to take a lot of Econ classes to be qualified for a finance job, or would MMSS take care of that part for me?

Anyone know?

Bump from a long time ago

Current MMSS student. Yeah, it’s possible. In my class, we have two McCormick students doing MMSS, and while it’s a little more difficult in terms of scheduling (and it isn’t atypical for McCormick majors to switch into Weinberg after a year), it’s possible and has been done before.

Can students applying to McCormick also apply to MMSS or is it required that they apply to Weinberg since MMSS is a Weinberg program?

You may chose whatever school you would like to apply to via Common Application. The MMSS application will separately indicate you would also like to be a part of MMSS. So yes, students applying to McCormick (or any other school, including Bienen) can also apply to MMSS.

Just realized I didn’t answer all parts of Skiiz’s original post, so I’ll do that now. MMSS by itself is qualification plenty for most - if not all - finance jobs that undergraduates typically consider. Your schedule will not be totally full even with a CS + MMSS degree, but you won’t have much free time for electives either. I would highly recommend giving Professor Rogerson (http://faculty.wcas.northwestern.edu/~wpr603/</a>) an email to get the details.
