MOB dress help needed!

Love the dress, @VeryHappy! Much more “rustic chic”.

^^^ LOVE. There is such a beautiful, fun spirit in that dress. And that sounds like the vibe they are trying to create with rustic chic.

Thanks, @doschicos. I agree about that.

I like the beading and the pleats on the top (which you can’t see all that well in the picture), but the bottom has a lot of fabric. It will need to be shortened (story of my life --) but it will still have a lot of fabric.

Still to be determined whether this is The One.

VH, have you looked at Eliza J dresses at Nordie’s? They have a similar cut but a bit less “rustic”.

Some come in P sizes.

I have, BB, and I’ve been intrigued. They are on my list for consideration.

That’s a cute dress VeryHappy, I think you’d look good in it. I like the tassel in the back. I like the Eliza J dresses too.

Both good choices but the antropologie dress is less “formal”. I love the color.

Will you need a wrap??

I love the anthropologie dress! Would look lovely with a solid color pashmina or silk or the like if you need a wrap.

I agree. It would be easy to add a pashima or other wrap to that dress if weather warrants. So many pretty colors to pull out from the fabric. But @VeryHappy has the arms to show off so hopefully that won’t be needed the whole night!

Thanks to you all. Yes, I’m thinking a soft red wrap. To be determined. It’s not a done deal yet.

I’ll need shoes, and a strapless bra, and it will need shortening. (As always.)

But first, I need the bride’s approval. She and S will be here over July 4th so I’ll show it to her then.

Between those dresses, it depends also what colors look really good on you. Instead of waiting, send her the picture links and get approval or feedback.

Well, I put my toe in the water today (though it felt like I went in up to my waist given the amount of rain here today!) and visited my favorite dress boutique. Either my memory is failing or their buyer has gone more “Vegas” but the selection was heavily tilted towards beautiful dresses covered in crystals, sequins, and beads. While some of that (see the less embellished of the Sohji or Pappell dresses) is ok with me, these were so just not me. The manager helped me find two dresses that would be fine, but for that kind of money I need more than fine. It seemed that the less “blingy” options were much more expensive. I’m the kind of person who is attracted to great fabric and design, but less so towards bling. I guess I need to start moving a little more purposefully on this since we are now inside 4 months.

I hear you, @runnersmom. I must say that some of the most visually appealing (to me) dresses came from the UK/Europe. Classy, tasteful, not Vegas or over embellished. But only place I could find them was on Pinterest! Search continues…

Calvin Klein has some very nice (and not terribly expensive) sleek but elegant dresses. I can’t find the one I tried on now, but it was one-shoulder with a slit up the side, and deep blue. No other embellishments. Very classy.

Here’s one CK dress in blue that is one-shouldered:

Yes, that’s the one! Thanks, @HImom. I liked it a lot. Very simple, clean lines, elegant. (Also about 18 inches too long for me, but that’s another story.)

I prefer dresses that allow me to wear my standard undergarments, but agree that dress is elegant and has simple but classic lines.

As a guest I have mostly worn knee-length dresses rather than floor length. I don’t see myself as MOB or MOG anytime soon.

Beautiful dress, and if it came in navy I would look to order it. @VeryHappy, that looks like an easy one to hem, but will it be difficult with the slit?

Pretty dress but for a couple of reasons I don’t think it would work for a petite. One, you need to go down a size from petites to regular. So for @VeryHappy I don’t think they have her size. Second, I think when hemmed the slit is going to be a wierd length. These things never work out for me. It sounds strange I know, but the petite shrinks everything down.

I received the 6 in the dress I liked. It fits perfectly except for the length. It will need to be hemmed. I texted pictures of me to my D, sister and niece and they all liked the dress. It might be the one. Probably. Maybe.

I like it and think it’s the one. It’s pretty expensive and hemming is not going to be cheap. Just to be sure, I have another dress coming and ordered 2 more. With Macy’s friends and family, it’s very tempting with the extra 30% off. So 3 more dresses coming but I think that’s it. Because the dress from Nordstrom is a stunner.

Just wondering whether folks buying MOB or MOG dresses or attire consider whether they will ever wear the garment again for other future events? I’m such a practical soul I suspect it would be at least a factor for me when I purchase such a farmentbone day.
