It is beautiful! The silver color is so pretty. But… It’s a little tight in the arms so I think I need to order it in a size up.
Here’s where I hesitate, I hate to order it before I’ve tried on the other 2 options. I hate having to return 2 dresses, 3 if the other dress doesn’t fit. I think I will. I’m not sure either that it’s not too dressy for me. It is going to be a pretty formal wedding, for Michigan. FDIL is wearing a ball gown and the bridesmaids are in long dresses. No idea what the MOB is wearing.
When is the wedding? One problem with waiting is they may sell out entirely or of your size, which would make the dress you otherwise like not available. I have found beading around my arms uncomfortable for prolonged periods of wear. Not sure if you might feel the beading especially around the armhole. I have on sequined dress and a few that have beading/sequins that I rarely wear because of this issue.
@deb922, I think you should go ahead and order it so that you know it fits. If it doesn’t, you can eliminate it from consideration.
The dress is lovely, but frankly I would have a real problem wearing sequins or blingy beading to an outdoor ceremony at 4:30. The only time I’ve ever worn sequins to a wedding, it was black tie, during the evening, and during the week between Christmas and New Year’s.(Also in Michigan, coincidentally.)
One of the ubiquitous lace dresses would be more appropriate, to me.
Personally, I’d be looking for silk, if anyone makes garments from it any more!
Small clarification, the bride is wearing a ball gown.
Thanks for your opinion @Consolation but I don’t think I have a problem wearing blingy. Not that I’m super fussy but I this might be the only time in my life I can wear such a fancy dress.
The other problem is so few dresses in my size available. There are I think 10 pages of dresses for MOB’s at Nordstrom, in my size 1 and a halfish. Not sure that will improve. Many are not my style at all. Many are black and I’d rather not but if I get desperate, I might have to think about it.
@deb922, you’re having the exact same problems I’m having. IIRC, when I looked Nordstrom had 12 long dresses in Size 2 Petite and 180 in Size 2 Regular. Kinda limits the options.
I’m a 4p so I have a few more options. But once I took out the black and champagne colors (and the midi length), there were really not that many choices.
And apparently I have big arms (no I don’t) because the 4p was tight in the arms. I can still wear it but am hoping the 6p won’t be too big everywhere else.
Yes I know, this it not a bad problem to have.
That’s why I was looking at short dresses. To have more options.
@HImom, it’s funny though because I actually bought the sandals from Zappos and the reviews were excellent, about how comfortable they were. I have bought another pair of slip on sandals to take along just in case as the evening wears on, my feet wear out.
@deb922: On that wonderful old show, What Not to Wear, they told everyone to buy things that fit you at your biggest part – maybe, for you, the arms – because the rest can be taken in.
OK, I had received instructions to walk away from the pricey Tadashi Shoji dresses and to remember that my S and FDIL are doing “rustic chic.” I just bought this:
I really like it, but truth be told it’s not something I ever thought that I would wear to my son’s wedding. I’m going to keep it for a while and try it on a few more times while I make up my mind.
