MOB dress help needed!

I am aiming more for comfort than the perfect dress. I want something I will feel comfortable in for a lot of hours, while walking around and dancing. No itchy lace, no strapless…

And really, I’m not a good MOB dress person…so something nice…but nothing that screams MOB.

Yup, no MOB, no sequins, no scuba fabric (who thought that’s a good idea???)…

@C3Baker , to me that is a dress you’d wear at a dressy hotel or country club type of venue in the evening.

I don’t remember the details of your event, other than that it begins at 4 and is in July. I have the vague impression that part of it will be outdoors.

it’s a nice dress, and if you have the figure for it, more power to you! But are you sure it isn’t too formal?

@runnersmom, judging by their website, Bergdorf’s has some wonderful dresses. But be prepared to spend a LOT!!

That’s why it’s going to be my “last chance saloon!” I will if I need to but I’d rather not, if you know what I mean. I, too, am shying away from traditional MOB/MOG attire. I want no sequins, no beads, no bling and I’d prefer no lace, but that’s the only one I’ve found that I like so far. In my head, the ideal dress would be crepe or silk, because I hate jersey and satin just seems too heavy. However, my friend will make me try on everything just to be sure my parameters don’t lead me to miss something I might love. I don’t remember spending this much effort finding my own wedding dress!

@runnersmom, I think the navy lace dress is really pretty.

The Vera Wang navy lace is very nice, but frankly at this point navy lace makes me want to run screaming from the room!

If my S and his GF become engaged, which I really would love to see, I will be in major trouble. Her mother is not only at least 10 years younger than I, she is a former model! And she lives in FL, so undoubtedly has one of those lovely light year-round tans. I will find myself looking into burkas.

Consolation, they’ll all be looking at the bride anyway, so no worries!!

Really, the attention is on the newlyweds. As long as everyone else is clothed and not trying really hard to stand out, everyone looks just fine, at least in my experience. No one expects us parents to look at all like models and hopefully will see us with the love our kids and loved ones do.

I just want to be comfortable! And I want to feel good in what I’m wearing.

I’m with the poster above…no bling. And for me…no long dress with a jacket.

Yup, @thumper1, that goes for me too - no jackets over long dress. Really, can’t I just wear my jeans?

Having comfortable footwear will be important to me when my kids marry as well, since that’s always been a priority for me. That nay end up being tougher than finding the rest of the right outfit. ~X(

Don’t know if Rent the Runway has anything - but it sounds like a one time dress is better to rent than buy if you can find it. I can’t see paying so much for a dress that H or I don’t like…

I know I’ll look better than my mother-in-law who was quite overweight and wore a long bubble gum pink dress. It’s a good thing I knew how wonderful she was because the dress was not wonderful! At the time I was actually more annoyed with my mother who wore a dress that I thought was too casual - and she’d had for years and worn often. Now I just look at the pictures and smile.

Get this–FSIL’s brother’s wedding is coming up soon.
Brother’s new MIL’s dress cost $16,000. She had it designed.

NUTS!

“Brother’s new MIL’s dress cost $16,000. She had it designed”

@-)

Didn’t get to the nitty-gritty with wedding details last night with another MOB - but her DD is having 10 bridesmaids, and I am sure quite a big lavish wedding from what I heard, and esp as both bride and groom are from our city.

Oh my on the designer dress and cost. That makes a $400-$1600 dress sound like chicken feed.

I can’t begin to imagine what a $16k dress would look like. I doubt I paid a total of $16k for all the clothing I own combined! I hope she really loves the outfit and can wear it more than once.

Even if I wanted to pay $16K for a dress, I’d be too embarrassed by the indulgence to talk about it!

Well, that would be lovely, but I can’t think of a single occasion where a $16,000 dress would be appropriate.

Maybe she can be on the red carpet for an awards ceremony or some inaugural ball? Done of those gowns would be in or above that price range.
