I like your attitude. And I like colors. B-)
veryhappy, I, too, like bright colors. Cobalt blue, Kelly Green, Peacock purple are my faves.
A friend’s D’s wedding pictures gave me pause when thinking about my dress color. Their bridesmaids in pale pink. Groomsmen in light grey. MOG in silver. My friend (MOB) was in a Vivid, searing neon hot pink dress. In every picture that she was in, that dress was The. Only. Thing. eyes focused on–not the bride and groom. Vowed I wouldn’t do that to my D. If the rest of the wedding hadn’t been in such subtle colors, it may have worked…but…it was just too much when viewed with the rest.
Hmmmm. Food for thought.
After thinking I was all set, I’m back in the hunt. I’ve returned 5 dresses. My dh said not a word about any of them when he photographed me in them. I know how this guy thinks. If he’d thought I looked good in any of them, he’d have said so. (Still, let’s give him points for learning, over a 38-year marriage, when not to say anything.) So I ordered another 2 dresses, both of which got a positive response. But there are drawbacks to both of them, too.
http://www.dillards.com/p/pisarro-nights-chiffon-floralbeaded-bodice-twopiece-gown/505090175?cm_mmc=TransactionEmail--COMOrderConfirmation--Body-_-Product This one sheds sequins like a golden retriever sheds fur, feels heavy and is pretty generic. Though it has sleeves and fits, which are my line in the sand criteria. It’s slate gray but looks black, and apparently, even though every dress comes in black and it’s flattering on many, the MOB/MOG isn’t supposed to wear a black dress.
http://www.dillards.com/p/adrianna-papell-short-sleeve-illusion-lace-gown/505981217?cm_mmc=TransactionEmail--COMOrderConfirmation--Body-_-Product I really like this one, though the draping feels a little Dolly Levi (or Morticia Addams) to me. Plus, it’s navy, which the bridesmaids are wearing. And apparently, even though almost every dress comes in navy and it’s flattering on many, a lot of people think the mothers shouldn’t wear the same color as the bridesmaids.
Aargh. I want to stop thinking about this. Thanks for the chance to whine.
@VeryHappy, I like that dress a lot, but if the color is deemed to bright, know they make it on other colors. I just googled it, and found a bright blue, navy, and I think black.
@frazzled1, I like the Adrianna Papell, but probably because I am just not a sequin person. As for the navy, I think you should just ask your D or FDIL (can’t remember if you are MOB or MOG!) what she thinks. The original plan for my FDIL was for her mother, me, and the bridesmaids to wear navy, with the flower girls in white with blue sashes. That has changed for the bridesmaids, and now the mothers will be in navy (as of now!) and the flower girls in navy with white sashes. Whine away - that’s what we’re here for!
The second dress is apparently available in a different color at Macy’s. I am on my ancient phone and cannot get the link to work, so googling might lead you to it. Some sort of wine color.
I like that navy one.
You know what I think of green…and while you say it’s slate…it looks green.
I like the navy gown, @frazzled1. I’d send the bride a photo and see what she says. Absent a strong objection, I’d go with it.
Frazzled, it looks like your second one also comes in aubergine…
Heavy and shedding… Not the best dress for a once in a lifetime event! IMO.
I would definitely NOT wear a heavy, shedding dress, even if paid to do so. What’s the point?
@1214mom : Yes, that dress comes in other colors, but not in the petite size. I must wear a petite – I’m only five feet tall. (Otherwise I look like I’m wearing my mother’s dress, even if it’s been hemmed.) If I go with that dress, it’s gotta be the hot pink.
Best line ever!!!
If you have a nice wrap…you aren’t going to stick out in the pictures! I think I’m going to stick out MORE in navy blue because everyone else is wearing lighter colors.
Thanks for the helpful feedback, all! I appreciate @BunsenBurner and @gosmom pointing out that the AP dress comes in aubergine - that could solve all my problems. I swear it wasn’t available in that color when I ordered the dress last week. I’ve been noticing how quickly the inventory changes at Nordstrom and Dillard’s (since I live on their websites now).
Eggplant could be a great color, depending on the shade. Sounds like you may have a winner!
VeryHappy, I’m afraid that I have to agree that the hot pink dress would just be too much for either MOG or MOB.

VH, I think blue might be less loud than pink:
