@Consolation, she tried on a similarly-styled Shoshanna dress (less pricey that the Marchesa) and din’t feel good in it, but I agree it’s perfect. She tried on both of the Shoshanna and David Meister dresses, but alas, no winner. I will take her to her favorite bra store to see if it can work, but she’s quite well endowed (think 32 multiple D!) and tried a similar bra style for her prom. It didn’t work so well for dancing…but that was 10 years ago, so we will look again. Technology, even bra technology, changes! I’ve made her out to be the pickiest, most difficult D in the world, but she really is not. If the B had stuck to navy for the bridal party, this would all be done!
It sounds like she needs to check out Salma Hayek’s wardrobe. (I love Salma Hayek: she is smart and talented and a crusader as well as being incredibly gorgeous!)
runners mom, D’s wedding dress has that same bodice–I call it rushing but really do not know what
it is called. The material is pulled up and across the bust. it would seem that would add to the larger bust but
in fact it calms it down. D is well endowed and when we went shopping she had no idea that it would look
so good.
@oregon101 , I think what you are referring to is “ruching,” but I don’t know which dress has it.
the shoshanna bodice-- silk from Saks
yes, thanks, ruching …
I am a total sucker for the florals that fade away at the hem. I LOVE the David Meister dress. (It what I think of when someone says floral - as opposed to floral lace or other things that have been linked here.)

I had never heard of Marchesa before but the brand has some lovely dresses. Zappos and 6 pm have some nice selections.
It’s always hard to find a dress when you actually need one. Would the bride be open to your D wearing a solid dress since she isn’t technically a bridesmaid?

For a fancy, family wedd No, wore a solid black dress, with flowers embroidered on neck/chest area. I could wear a regular bra, but had tailor sew it n bra strap holders. Given the difficulty your DD is facing, I’m wondering if she could buy a solid, and let a seamstress embroider some flowers on the gown.
You all have the best ideas, I may try some of them! I know the bride would be ok with her wearing a solid gown, and if it comes to that she will, but she’s been included as part of the bridesmaid crew even though her official role is as the “best sister” and she would prefer to be seen as part of that group. It’s a never ending saga that will end on September 3 when I know what she’s wearing down the aisle. She’s just to tired to deal with it right now (her work life is crazy with multiple late/all nights in a row) so, as her mom, I’m backing off and trusting we’ll figure it out in time.
If she could wear a solid, there are loads of beautiful dresses.
I adore this one. You have to look at it close up:
Nice dresses!!
Beautiful dresses! I was in Saks yesterday returning one of the other dresses and noticed a couple of those. If she ultimately goes solid, I’m not worried. per an earlier suggestion, I found and ordered a strapless low back bustier from HerRoom that comes with wide set clear straps. Since the dress is sleeveless and not strapless, she could wear the straps and they would not be visible. Maybe this will work and we’d only need to back the illusion in the front! I’ll keep working on it!
Fingers crossed! I found two dresses on sale on Nordstrom’s site and showed them to dh. He insisted that I order both. One’s a bit more casual and could work for the rehearsal dinner. If the length measurements are correct, I may not need to have them hemmed. A “midi” on those tall models is definitely ankle length on me.
The third link in post #574 is actually the dress my D thought I should try for my MOB dress. I just may order it to try it (but I would use a different belt). http://www.bhldn.com/occasion-dresses-view-all-dresses-print-dresses/melinda-dress/productOptionIDS/76638615-b258-4703-a4f2-e7e6c0af39f5
The risk with that dress, IMO, is tat if it needs to be shortened, you’ll lose the most interesting part of the dress.
But at 5’ 0", I’m always considering the shortening!!
I am tall enough that I shouldn’t have to have it shortened. Not sure if I am all that fired up about it, but D has good taste, so I am willing to try it.
That is a lovely dress@kelsmom. I wonder if there’s a seam joining the bodice to the dress. The belt in the photo seems lower in the photo of the model’s back than when she’s facing the front. If likely change the belt as well. I don’t think the satin one in the photo does the dress justice. Maybe some lace that matches the dress?
Some florals… if anyone is still looking.

@kelsmom - I’m kind of obsessed with one of the MOB dresses at BHLDN. I don’t know if I can pull it off, body-wise, but I may order it and see how it looks: http://www.bhldn.com/bridal-party-mother-of-the-bride/odette-dress/productOptionIDS/9ee0c73a-1473-422b-a987-f30117879235
@scout59 order that dress and see. It’s gorgeous!
