So many lovely dresses. Makes me almost wish HI was more formal so one could wear them. Mostly I’m happy we aren’t so formal, except for folks who go to charity galas around here.

@scout59 , I love that dress! D’s dress is very simple, so I can’t do anything like that … but I sure would if I could! Her dress is silk faille, with a simple silhouette. D doesn’t have any lace or beads or anything like that, so I am relying on her to help me pick something that will be complementary rather than out of place.
I’m not MOB. I actually have three kids who have decided to not do the conventional, get married, have kids thing. Seriously no plans to do this. Not youngsters either. 30, 29, 27.
So I just look at the dresses and certainly like and dislike orhers. Some seem more prom dressy and others too young for MOB. HaHa. I will never be that!
@kelsmom - that’s my problem, too. D’s dress is simple, but whenever I ask her for guidance on MY dress, she’s all over the place. I need to talk with the MOG and see what’s she’s planning to wear.
It’s a good thing we have lots of time left before the wedding!
Never is a long, long time. I know some folks who married in their 40s–1st time for each!
It IS true that women in HI do and have always been able to wear maxi-dresses or muumuus, in a variety of styles, varying between caftan-like to very fitted, casual to regal. I have two long skirts but don’t wear maxi dresses much at all, tho I did for awhile in my 20s.
I showed my MOG dress to the bride and the MOB. (They are here for the long weekend.) They approve, they approve!! Phew.

So, I had thought my MOB dress search was over – I have several dark blue Ralph Lauren dresses in the closet to pick from, and can make a final choice closer to the September wedding date. (All from Macy’s which has a generous 180 day return policy.) Then yesterday, at The Wooden Boat Show at Mystic Seaport (CT) of all places, I saw a young lady in a lovely navy, below-the-knee dress; a hater neck style that looks quite good on me, and flowy material. (Not something I would wear to a boat show, but whatever …) I never do this, but I followed her to ask her where she got the dress. English was not her first language, but it was quite good. She said it was a Ralph Lauren, from the latest collection. She also said I could probably find it at Macy’s, but also mentioned Forever 21??? Two things that didn’t make sense to me: (1) I have scoped out every RL navy dress there is; this isn’t one of them. (2) I don’t shop at Forever 21, but I’m 99.9% certain they don’t sell RL.
ANYWAY, I can’t find that dress anywhere online. The closest I’ve come is this, by Tommy Hilfiger:

@VaBluebird - Yes, thanks. I have a couple Chaps dresses; they fit me quite well. There’s nothing like the one I saw on the young lady the other day, though.
I was at our Dillard’s return counter today and talked to a MOG - wedding is July 29th. She was returning two dresses that were dress up, so I struck up a conversation. She waited to see the dress of MOB to see her lead. She asked me if she needed to show MOB what she selected, and I said just run it by the bride/couple. I told her about CC and about our wedding threads - and the dress help thread, so she might be seeking help here. That wedding is in Mobile (we are in N AL).

I was in Michael Kors yesterday and there was a bride with 3 bridesmaids and they were trying on and purchased this dress for a Labor Day weekend wedding. The dress is gorgeous in person. They paired it with gold sandals.
