I wasn’t a fan of strapless bras either, but I got fitted well at Nordstrom’s. The bra wasn’t the most comfortable I’ve worn, but I tried it at home for 8-10 hours to see if I could wear it at S1’s wedding. I am not small-chested, and needed to feel comfortable that I wouldn’t be falling out or tugging up the bra during the hours of dancing I planned to do. It all worked out well, but I understand that not everyone likes strapless bras.
I have never worn a strapless bra or a dress that requires one. I guess I just automatically eliminate them from consideration.
I’ve been fitted at Nordies, Bloomies, and a private boutique. Have never found great bras, with or without straps. It’s tough to find my size in the US anyway–small rib age but well-endowed. At least my bras fit and done leave marks or grooves on my shoulders, unlike some poor souls I know.
I’m a 34 DD. While the strapless bra fit, I used the clear straps to be sure I was secure. I didn’t want to worry about sagging or bra movement for the 8 hours I was in my dress.

A second dress for the same dates is only $32.50.
I ordered 2 for my daughter for her to wear for graduation weekend events. Total was $108.
I wouldn’t want to wear one every day, but a long-line strapless bra is often more practical than a regular one for a special occasion. It’s basically a corset (though you don’t have to fit it to compress your waist). It gives a lot more area to provide structural stability and works better with gravity. It’s the logic of architecture.
Kind of like a buttress?
Yes, my BFF wore a “Merry Widow” with her wedding gown. I’m just a fan of garments I can wear with regular bras, personally.
I received one of my orders from Nordstom yesterday – this dress: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/tadashi-shoji-embroidered-lace-gown-regular-petite/4584365?cm_mmc=email_tran--042017--order_confirm-_-proddescr2
It fits me very well (because it’s a petite size, which I absolutely need), and both DH and my sister are very much in favor of it. But I’m finding it (a) typically MOG-ish and (b) too conservative for me. It’s MOG-ish because every single MOG I’ve know has worn a navy dress with lace on the top. And boy, is it conservative – it’s so covered up I could wear it at an Orthdox Jewish wedding and be appropriate!
It’s definitely a possibility, but I’m still looking.
This one is a little less covered…and not navy…but maybe yountried it already.
I like the burgundy color.
@thumper1, I like it very much. However, in my size it only comes in black (not for my son’s wedding!) and burgundy, and the burgundy is too close to the bridesmaids’ colors. I don’t want to look like I’m part of the wedding party. I wish the silver were available, but it’s not.
This dress is being delivered to me today: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/tadashi-shoji-lace-gown-regular-petite/4315865?cm_mmc=email_tran--042017--order_confirm-_-proddescr1
I’ve got my fingers crossed.
I LOVE that light blue! LOVE it! Hope it fits and looks terrific.
Great designer! Wink wink.
It’s the same size by the same designer, so I expect it will fit. You just never know what it’s going to look like until you see it in person. And you never know what it’s going to feel like until you try it on. My UPS deliveries are toward the end of the day, so I’ll post on here later and let you all know how it works. (I know you’ll all be on the edge of your collective seats until then.)
My D sent me the link for this Shoji gown this morning https://www.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/tadashi-shoji-blouson-illusion-lace-gown?ID=2435789. AT first she thought it would work for her, then realized it might be better for me. I love the illusion and the wide waistband. I may have to order it to try.
@VeryHappy, fingers crossed for that light blue dress! I will indeed be on the edge of my seat until your UPS truck arrives!
Love that color! Fingers crossed.
@runnersmom -that is a pretty dress. It’s nice also because it is has the style of Tadashi but is different.
I love a lot of the Tadashi shoji dresses and the lace gowns are beautiful. @VeryHappy I agree that the first dress is conservative but still pretty. I hope you can find one of the others in a color that you like. Did you check the Tadashi site itself? Also sometimes Nordstrom Rack or Saks off Fifth or the Neiman outlets will have previous years colors.
My concern with some of the Tadashi lace gowns is that if your wedding is black tie a guest might show up in the same dress. Happened to a friend of mine.
Thanks, @mom60. Not black tie. In fact, “rustic chic” is what they’re going for, but my instructions are to wear whatever I want.
@runnersmom: Very pretty dress! It wouldn’t work for me for several reasons, but I especially love the rows of blue around the waist. Good luck – I hope it works for you.
I have a Tadashi dress…floor length. I’m quite sure, I will be the ONLY one in a floor length dress…except the bride.
@mom60 it’s not black tie. TBH, I wouldn’t do that to our friends and relatives.
My Nordstrom Rack never has petite sizes.
Cute dresses @VeryHappy. I’m in the same boat as you. Bridesmaids are in plum and I shouldn’t wear black. Need a petite and so it really limits what there is.
Also the wedding is in October so I’m thinking the dress will need sleeves of some sort. I haven’t even looked yet and am not looking forward to trying to find a blue dress.
