MOB dress help needed!

@deb922

Believe me…you will find PLENTY of blue dresses…especially if you are looking for navy.

@deb922: My son’s wedding is also in October, but you know how hot these things can get. I suggest the two Tadaschi dresses I posted.

When did this lace overlay thing start dominating the racks?

^^ There were a lot of lace dresses when I was looking back in 2012 when my D was married and more popular in 2014 when my S was married. I like it but have to be careful about snagging.

I wore a lace overlay dress when my S was married in 2015. And it was in navy which was the best color I could come up with when the bridal party was in aquamarine and the MOB was wearing silver.

The most important thing about lace is the quality. No one needs to be wearing an itchy lace dress…and yes…I tried several on that had VERY stiff and itchy lace…and were expensive to boot.

@Consolation: There are two choices, it seems to me – lace overlay, or lots of beading. Everything else is a variation of those themes.

Or tulle. Or silk with no beading. Or some that sort of look like a light weight knit. Or satin…no beading. I’ve seen them all!

But lace overlay is THE most plentiful. And in a lot of different lengths as well.

I tried on the light blue one that just arrived today. I’m not impressed. The navy one looks much more elegant. The blue one is more of a smoky blue, a dusty blue, than a clear blue. And I don’t like the cap sleeves, and it’s a tad too snug (even though it’s the same size and manufacturer as the navy one).

So, so far the navy one is leading, but I’m not in love with it.

Bummer, especially about the color. It could happen - a different dye lot was used for this year’s fabric but the photo was not changed.

Don’t settle. I like the navy one, but prefer the silver or light blue. Try various stores for your sake ze. If u like the lite blue, get it a size larger and have it tailored.

The other thing that puzzles me is the dominance of sleeveless dresses everywhere. Most people could use a nice sleeve, IMHO, and I don’t mean a cap sleeve either.

The other thing that gets me is strapless gowns on everyone, including people who IMHO definitely no not have the shoulders and arms for it to be a flattering look.

There are a LOT of spaghetti strap dresses as well.

Yeah, for some of us who are not sporting Michelle Obama arms, a little more coverage is good.

But if you’ve got it, flaunt it!

I’ve got the arms and wouldn’t mind flaunting them, which is one reason I’m not crazy about the navy dress with the long lace sleeves.

I’ve now started to look at short dresses. The bride (my FDIL) says she doesn’t care what I wear as long as I’m comfortable. I think I might be more comfortable in a short dress. I don’t know yet what the MOB is wearing.

@VeryHappy , especially if you’ve got the arms, I think you could do a LOT better for a rustic chic wedding and have a lot more fun!

Remind me, what is the date of the wedding? Is it indoors or out? What time of day?

It’s October 7. The ceremony will be outdoors, if the weather’s OK; cocktails will be under a tent; and the reception will be indoors. And the ceremony is planned for 4:00 PM.

My sister wore a short, sleeveless dress as MOB for the last wedding. Don’t yet know what she has planned for July MOB dress for her youngest. She did look great.

Have you looked at Anthropologie dresses? https://popularresistance.org/i-dont-discuss-racism-with-white-people/ Or for rustic chic, maybe Sundance?

@VeryHappy, is this in CT or elsewhere?

How do you look in a burnt orange/pumpkinish kind of color? Goes well with plum/burgundy, autumnal, etc.
