Music mom, I bought my navy cacki pants at anthropology. For less $$, try the gap. Paired with a lovely blouse, u would look great.
@musicmom1215 Have you looked online at Sundance? They often have stuff with the vibe you are describing.

@doschicos - we must think alike.
@musicmom1215 - Sundance has some beautiful clothing
I was thinking the Sundance catalog might have the aesthetic that you are looking for. I don’t know what size you are or what you want but this came to mind.

They do have a couple of retail stores in the Dallas area if you are in the area
Sundance has this skirt

I like this skirt and think it’s dressy

A lot of pretty lace dresses.
Lol, lol, lol, I guess many of us had the same idea
@deb922 - did you recently get a catalog in the mail?
I think I get a weekly catalog from them. Way too much!
No I don’t usually get a catalog. I love their clothes though. I wear a lot that looks similar that I buy at a local boutique
Well, color me embarrassed. I never heard of them until now.
I never heard of them either, but that is definitely more what I am looking for. Thanks everybody!
@VeryHappy - I was introduced to them by a CC poster @soozievt who recommended them in a thread last night ago.
Sundance isn’t really my style, but there is something about their catalog. I always want half the stuff pictured! I’d be thrilled if my kids had a wedding where I could go for that look.
Not my style either, but I love looking at their clothes, too.
I went on Macy’s and Lord & Taylor’s websites and there was exactly one cocktail dress in my size on each of the websites. Very frustrating.
Sundance is not my usual style either, but it is closer to what I envision than a regular cocktail dress. My usual style is very classic and simple.
I like this one:

Okay. My D’s wedding is in May, so technically I still have plenty of time to find a dress, but I’m starting to get antsy.
I need a floor-length dress and I’d prefer it had short sleeves (not sleeveless…I don’t think I’ll have those Michelle Obama arms by May.) The color doesn’t matter (according to D) but I’m thinking champagne/pinkish/pale colors. The bridesmaids will be wearing lilac. It’s an evening wedding, so fairly formal, but my D and her fiance are informal people, so nothing over-the-top formal.
I really liked this dress, but I think the MOG has already purchased it. Yikes!

Similar dress from BHLDN:

I also like this one from BHLDN, but I’m not sure of the sleeves (they’re awfully close to sleeveless). It looks great on the model, but every time I’ve seen similar dresses on “real” people, they seem to be yanking at the sleeves/shoulders:

And finally, a few from Nordstrom - similar shape to the others, but without the sparkles:

I’m not usually a glittery/sparkly person, but I find myself drawn to those kinds of dresses. Maybe I just need to try some on to see how they look before I over-analyze everything.
Yes, definitely try some on. DS is getting married in a month (gulp!) and I started trying dresses on last February. It took me a looooong time and lots of dresses to finally find something that was suitable, that fit well and that I liked.
