MOB dress help needed!

I won’t bore you with the ongoing saga of the alterations hell involved with my MOG dress for my S’s wedding this Sunday, but suffice it to say that the manager at Saks offered to exchange the dress in question for whatever I wanted on the floor, even exchange regardless of the price, because of the issues I faced. I tried this on i and it was lovely, but way too much dress for what I wanted. In the end, 8 1/2 hours later, they were able to fix my dress so that only I would notice what isn’t right and we are good to go. Just a bit of advice - my dress is crepe cut on a bias, and alterations have been a disaster. The seamstress said the fabric, cut on the bias, is very difficult to work with…wish they would have told me that before I bought it. And my D, of floral dress hell, had her dress shortened, and told them NOT to cut the fabric. They did, it’s too short and she is now wearing flats. I can only hope that the wardrobe issues will cover us as far as things going wrong are concerned and the rest of the weekend (other than the forecasted rain :frowning: ) will go smoothly.

I’m very sorry to hear of your and D’s wardrobe issues, @runnersmom, but it sounds like these are things that only you and your D will notice. Thank goodness.

@runnersmom I’m sure that both dresses will be fine.

But I’m curious…Saks actually screwed up your dress…and while it’s OK…it’s not great. Their fault. Lunch was nice…but really, they should have refunded your money.

Well, refunding my money would have been nice but the manager basically said it was;t something she could do and let me keep the dress. They did refund the alteration fee and offer me a replacement dress which I declined because I preferred my less than perfect original to the other options. The experience and time suck was as frustrating as the screwed up alterations. To be fair, I doubt anyone but me will notice and though I agree it should be perfect, it’ll be fine.

Might not be the right pink but it’s on sale so I thought I’d post it

Nordstrom is having a sale right now and if anyone is is dress searching mode they have some good prices.

Posting it here, too. Neiman has a $110 off $400 purchase of non-clearance items in celebration of its 110th anniversary. The code is NM110, and the items are marked with the code.

I found this dress online. Looks good on the tall, skinny model, but wonder how it will look on short and plump? My son’s wedding is not going to be extremely formal (men are not wearing tuxes and in a rustic setting) so I don’t really want a lot of bling. Maybe I can find it in one of their stores. https://www.dillards.com/p/alex-evenings-bell-sleeve-v-neck-matte-jersey-gown/507262843?categoryId=-10041

Love the dress!!! I think it looks smashing on the plus model, too!

So if you are somewhere between the two ladies pictured, you can probably get a feel how it might look on you (height is another issue, I know).

Good luck finding in the stores. I found a dress I want to see at Nordstrom. It is not available in ANY of their stores…only online.

Nordstrom now has a feature where you can reserve items for trying on at their stores. I don’t know if that includes online inventory and store ones because I have not had a need for it yet. Might be worth checking this feature out.

@BunsenBurner the Nordstrom near me will not order this dress and have it there for me. I asked…but maybe I should again.

On my monitor, the dresses look two different colors. Both say evening blue, but the Dillard’s one looks navy on my monitor and the Nordstrom one lighter. There is not a Nordstrom store very close to me, but there is a Rack not too far from my daughter (still would be an hour’s drive for me).

A tea-length dress would be fitting for this wedding, but my legs are covered in spider veins, red marks, and scars, especially near my ankles. It would take some pretty thick hose to cover it.

I also found this dress online. The price would certainly be great for a dress I will only wear once!

Lovely dresses, both of them, @musicmom1215.

Nordstrom has free shipping and free return shipping. So there’s really no risk to ordering it and returning it if it doesn’t work.

You can also have the dress shipped to your local store for pick up and take it straight to a dressing
room and return it right then if you don’t care for it.

I ordered 11 items from Neiman Marcus and it took them forever to get them to me.
Two items took over 3 weeks. I was worried about the refunds and while it was not fast I did
get everything back. Still, I will never order from them again because I am Amazon and Zillow spoiled.

@oregon101 - Neiman and other reputable places start their 30 day return window on discounted merch from the date of delivery, not from the date of shipment. Full price merch can be returned to a B&M Neiman for full refund much longer. They gave me a refund on an item I bought last fall… I was not expecting that. But their customer service is good.

IME, Nordstrom and Zappos can’t be beat in terms or ordering, returning, and getting help with customer service. They are absolutely the best.

When I was ordering lots and lots and lots of dresses to figure out my MOG dress, NM, L&T, Bloomies and Saks were OK – but Nordie’s and Zappos are the best.

Went shopping yesterday to a mall and looked in several department stores. Dillard’s had pretty much the only selection, but I didn’t find anything that I loved. (My D, otoh, found a beautiful dress on clearance for $38!) After thinking about it, I think I will be way overdressed in the special occasion dresses I’ve seen. Nearly all have sparkle or bling. I had an epiphany while in the shower. Please don’t think I am crazy, but I think a long, slightly full skirt in denim paired with a lacy or otherwise dressy top would be appropriate. This is a rustic wedding and the groom and guys are wearing blue jeans, burlap-looking vests, and dress shirts and ties. And cowboy boots, of course. (This is Texas.) I’m talking lightweight, dress-quality denim (possibly with a sheen) and not double-stitched, heavy pants denim. So far an online search has turned up nothing even remotely like what I have designed in my mind! I have only just begun to fight!
