I know many eons ago for my wedding, MOB and MOG got together and agreed they would both wear long dresses. (Evening wedding the groom and best man wore tuxes.) Nobody worried about colors. I wore off white, my maid of honor wore a pale yellow, my mom wore an African tie die dress that was mostly turquoise and my MIL wore bubble gum pink. We look very cheery in the group photos. 
@Musicmom2015 : DS and FDIL are also having a “rustic chic” wedding. I tried, really tried, to find something in that spirit but finally gave up. Everything I tried looked too “boho” or beachy, so I just decided the hell with it.

Have attended many weddings where the moms of B&G wore different length dresses and wholly different styles and colors. They looked fine in their chosen outfits and everyone seemed quite happy.
Attention MOB/MOG dress shoppers! WHBM sent an email that they now carry designer dresses!

Hi! My son is getting married in August. All I know so far is that it will be a 5pm outdoor wedding at a golf course with the reception inside. The bridesmaids are wearing navy blue and the groom/groomsmen are wearing black. The MOB has not gotten a dress, or even thought about it yet. She says that everything looks so “frumpy”. So I will wait and see what she buys before I buy. Both my other kids(adults) are in the wedding. Bride does not have strong feelings about what color I should wear, but has not really thought too much about it. One friend says you can wear the same color as the bridesmaids and another says absolutely not. I read no white, black or red. I don’t really do well in pastels so I was thinking maybe a charcoal color. @tx5athome did you see the first one is on sale for $49 but only in very small sizes? I’d order that…you could probably consign that one if you don’t actually use it! Or even if you do! If it’s available in your size!
I was going to say the same thing - grab it if you think there is a good chance it will fit! 
Problem is that it is on clearance and not returnable. So definitely a gamble.

Your dresses are lovely. I would think you could wear any shade of blue to complement the black and navy.
I have only found the dress I want to try online at Macy’s. It is not in their stores. I rarely shop there. Does anyone know if they have a coupon sale every weekend or frequently like Kohl’s and Penney’s. I hate to pay regular price one day and find a coupon the next. I signed up for their emails to get 25% off my order, but the fine print says it is only good if I use a Macy’s credit card, which I don’t have and don’t really want.

@musicmom1215 the Tx was meant to be T “times” 5, but is often confused with Texas, the wedding is in San Diego close enough to the coast that we should be OK.
There’s no wedding in my future, but I still love this thread.
I came on to say that two friends were recently MOB and MOG – I wasn’t at either wedding but saw photos on Facebook. They both wore shockingly hideous dresses. One was frumpy and drab and wrinkly, the other shiny and ill-fitted and wrinkly. Both of them are in good shape physically and have the resources to spend on a nice dress. All of you are lightyears ahead of them.
