I am not busty and I am having the opposite problem. I am finding the dresses are too small on top. I have never had that problem before.
Back when I was in college, my bra size was 32-almost-B. My hips were much bigger, although I wore size 5’s and 7’s, so they couldn’t have been as big as I thought. I wore a padded bra to fill out the tops of clothes. Maybe a little misleading to the guys, but oh well!
My D was with me when I tried on dresses and listened to me complain about my stomach pooching out. She said there’s shapewear for that. She has some contraption that she loves that is like a one-piece swimsuit. I asked how you go to the bathroom. She says there’s an “escape hatch.” We laughed and laughed.
Today, while shopping alone, I tried on a shapewear thing. It was like a tank top that hits below the boobs. It did not do much for the stomach pooch. Then I could not get it off. I started giggling in the dressing room. I finally had to pull it down and step out of it. Quite the workout.
Have you any recommendations for items such as this? I don’t think I want the onesie even with the escape hatch. I also saw a slip that was like the tank top only probably went below the bottom a bit, but I was afraid it would ride up and require tugging and adjusting a lot.
Here is my personal spanx tip. I don’t want the feel of a girdle…I want something to smooth out the bumps. I buy one size larger than I would normally use. It provides the smoothness without the girdle feel.
Go to a good lingerie place…and they will, have ones to try on.
Agree with @thumper1 about avoiding the girdle feel. I wore a high (went up to right below my breasts) - thigh length body-shaper that was the in-between “tension.” I didn’t even feel it, it never bunched up or rolled down, and it was not too difficult to go to the restroom. It gave me a nice smooth shape and did help that stomach pooching that I, too, have and hate!
Waving “hello” and “goodbye” to all here! D’s wedding was Saturday. I no longer need to look for, try on or decide about a MOB dress!! Yay, yay and yay!! Now maybe when I’m online I’ll get ads for something other than MOB dresses!
Anyway, I had tons of compliments on my dress – knee length, sleeveless navy blue with sequins. Just enough glitz to distinguish me from the guests, but still perfect for the camp setting. Turns out it was one I had gotten almost at the beginning of my search. My feet were dead by the end of the night, but it was all worth it.
PS I’m a believer in Spanx. I find it does a great job of smoothing, but still very comfy. I did see the long-line versions with the escape hatch, but that’s not what I wore.
The best thing after having all the right apparel and nice hair/makeup is to wear a smile and be relaxed during the wedding day. I had shapewear/spanx on which helped me look better in my dress.
You can thoroughly enjoy the day! I had shoes that were comfortable until my feet swelled; advise to have something comfy for after the wedding if you are responsible to help with anything (putting gifts in car, helping with ‘clean up’).
@BunsenBurner , I saw something similar to the second one you posted. It looked like a slip. I did not try it on, but I was afraid it might ride up. I don’t want to be tugging on my undies every time I stand up. Have you worn one like that?
I have the Simone Perelle one, and it does not ride up. I highly recommend trying a few styles on at a boutique that specializes in lingerie to see what feels comfortable for you. I hated some Wolford styles that folks claimed were awesome.
As for shoes, I wore great floral heels until the dancing started and then I changed into my white converse sneakers. When the photographer caught a glimpse, she loved the contrast between my formal navy gown and my cool kicks! Made the rest of the evening much more comfortable. I highly recommend comfort over fashion once the dancing starts!
