Two thumbs up! And what a price.
I admire the body you must have to fit into that dress and have it look good. If it flatters you, go for it. It’s so sophisticated!
Lovely dress!
I love the dress and price! It looks very elegant! Enjoy! The back looks perfect and like it won’t need any alterations.
@Marian - not a great body but the dress looks very nice on. I have good arms, narrow torso and narrow hips. My figure challenge is the waistline. This dress does a good job of highlighting the good and camouflaging the bad.
My nay concern now is a friend who has great taste mentioned the one thought that it’s got velvet which is more winter. The wedding is early June but it’s in an area that isn’t very warm and can actually get quite chilly.
@HImom it’s the perfect back. Exactly what I was looking for. It will just need a small hem.
I’m reviving this thread in hopes of getting some advice/opinions. D is getting married in mid-Sept. in the northeast. Bridesmaids are wearing 3 different shades of blue, one of which is navy. At first I thought I should stay away from navy for my dress, but then I found out that the MOG has already bought her dress and it is navy. D said I can wear whatever I want, including navy. I have two dresses in mind, both of which come in navy and eggplant/deep plum. Would I look out of place if I DON’T wear navy? I just can’t decide which color would be better - neither really looks any better on me than the other. These are the dresses I’m considering:

Also, is the first one too matronly? Some of the reviews say it’s a perfect grandmother-of-the-bride dress!
Well…I think this is the perfect choice…in the eggplant color. The navy is nice too.
This is the dress I wore to our DDs wedding…but in lavender. It is very comfortable!
They’re both nice dresses, and it just depends on what fits you better. I don’t see that the first one is more matronly than the second. It is hard to find dresses that are not too sexy or too matronly! I like to look ladylike for an event like a wedding.
I think if only one bridesmaid is wearing navy, then you won’t feel left out or out of place wearing something other than navy. It would be different if all of them and one mom had navy.
I’ve had both of these dresses on. The blue looks matronly, the skirt is not as flowy as it is in the tea-length version. I actually sent the plum rosette one back and am leaning toward that dress in the violet. Fits true to size, looks elegant, and is not heavy. D’s wedding is in August.
@dentmom4 that dress in violet is very pretty too ?
Thanks, Thumper. It’s more blue than violet. I have 2 weeks to ponder until my return window expires! It’s most likely my dress.
I’ve also seen both of those dresses on. I think the navy style is more matronly. The eggplant dress is very pretty.
Two thumbs up for the eggplant one.
They are both lovely. I don’t think the eggplant one is matronly at all. I see how the navy one could be.
I like the eggplant, it will look lovely with all the navy’s.
Agree on the eggplant styling…more youthful than the navy. I prefer simple lines to fussier for a timeless all ages look.
Thanks, everyone! I was kind of leaning toward the eggplant one, so I appreciate having some reassurance.
I think it’s also easier to wear a necklace with the eggplant one if you are so inclined.
A necklace would look nice with that eggplant dress, and I’ve seen the same dress worn with a necklace and it looked lovely.
But really…it’s not needed. The dress has a little bling to it. My dress was lavender and I wore amethyst earrings…and that was it. My hair was partially up.
@TCMom - The second one (the embellished lace) comes in navy, and is very flattering on. Definitely more youthful looking than the first dress. And yes, very comfortable, and washable! https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/alex-evenings-embellished-lace-gown-regular-petite/4800427?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FWomen%2FClothing%2FDresses%2FMother%20of%20the%20Bride&color=navy
