@orangepurple - I so agree with you on the fit. The issue is even more frustrating as we have fewer and fewer stores to shop at in my area. At least “in the old days” you could take a dress into the dressing room in several sizes. Now with having to order online you have to guess if you’re not familiar with a brand or order multiple sizes. Or the salesperson would suggest you try something that you wouldn’t have considered but it looks great on. I have 6 dresses that I need to return to Anthropologie. I have three dresses ordered from Nordstrom. @tx5athome I like that dress. I might order it after I return the ones I have.
I know I could add a sheer back to a dress but I’d prefer to find something that already has a high back. I’d prefer the back to not be sheer. Also I have a few alterations people who can hem but I don’t know anyone who I’d trust to do something that was more elaborate.
I think one thing I did figure out from the Anthropologie dresses is that I want a longer dress. My other D and my H both didn’t like the above the knee dresses without a leg covering. I’m not going to wear hosiery so will focus on long or at least tea length.
@swimcatsmom I’m glad you found something that works for you. I love the look of chiffon pants on other people. On me they look ridiculous. I do much better with a narrower leg.
I’m 5’ 10" so the pants work well - they are not wide wide. And happily they are long enough which I was worried about.
I know what you mean about the problems with there being less stores. We have to drive 100 miles to actually try clothes on. I went twice with no success (plus it was exhausting as my stamina is not back up yet) so turned to the internet. One thing going to the store was helpful for is that I figured out certain brands seemed to fit me well and others did not so it narrowed down what to order (for instance Dillard’s had a brand - Alex something - that just did not fit my body whatever size I tried.
I was surprised how unhelpful the sales people in the department stores were - if it wasn’t in their section they have no clue!
Alex Evening?
@swimcatsmom I love those pants outfits…but particularly the one from Dilliards!
I’m planning to wear the Dillards one for the wedding and the teal one for the rehearsal dinner. I need to send the navy and purple ones back but so tempted to keep the purple. I rarely dress up so it would be silly.
Yes, Alex Evening. Some pretty outfits but they did not work for my body at all.

This dress arrived today in the navy. It looks nice on and I think it could be a strong contender. The opening in the back isn’t as flush as it shows in the photo. I’ll have to see what can be done.
@mom60 very pretty dress!
@mom60 that’s beautiful. Is that the color you got?
I got the navy. The green is pretty but too bold for me. I also ordered it in the grey but I haven’t received it yet. Also waiting on another navy in a different style.
@mom60 that’s a beautiful dress. I like that a lot.
Yes, that dress is gorgeous.
@mom60 That’s a beautiful dress!
I’m sure a good seamstress can help the dress fit to your satisfaction—such an elegant dress that can be used to other events as desired.
@mom60, that dress is great!
I love the dress in #1404, but can’t believe the model’s hunched shoulders. I can just hear my mother saying, “Hold your shoulders back!”
@mom60 said that the back of the dress isn’t as flush as it looks in the pictures. Perhaps that’s why the model is hunched - if she stood up straight the back of the dress would be baggy. I agree with @musicmom1215 that it’s not a good pose.
Wow! Great dress!!
Agreed . Beautiful dress. If my S ever gets married ( he swears he won’t, but you never know) , I am getting that dress.
Found another dress I think looks better on me.

Bought it in navy.
What became pretty apparent in the process was that size and color make a huge difference. I tried the first Alfred Sung dress that I liked in navy on in the grey. The grey looked so different and the fabric looked cheap.
The Cince Camino I had first ordered in a larger size and didn’t like it at all. When I tried it smaller my H loved it and it fit nicely. I’m ordering it one size smaller to see if I prefer it a bit more fitted. It’s also I think a great buy.
Very pretty…and it looks like the back of this dress is good to go without any changes!
^^^ Lovely dress @mom60 !
