@daylily1 if there style appeals to you one of the nice things about Modcloth is that they post lots of pictures of models and customers in plus sizes so you can get a pretty good idea as to what you will look like.
I’m hoping the back to this isn’t too low cut for you. The small V in th back is well above a regular bra!
This is the dress I wore to my daughter’s wedding in May. It’s comfortable with just a little “give” in the fabric. Comes in a variety of colors…I wore a beautiful lavender.
@thumper1 it’s a beautiful dress but the V is too deep for me. Believe me when I say no one wants to see any of my back. Too many crusty keratosis. I’m fine with a deep V in the front just want high back.
I am forwarding the link to a friend who is looking for a long dress for a late January wedding. It might work for her.
I got two of the Anthropologie dresses yesterday and I’m getting two tomorrow. The rest are back ordered.
I love the dress in #1383. This is kind of a crazy idea, but at that price you could buy two of them and then get a tailor add a panel in the back so the back works.
I would suspect a decent seamstress/tailor could add an appropriate panel to any garment you desire if you find something nearly perfect to make it perfect.
I hadn’t considered that. I will order it and see what possibly can be done. @BunsenBurner it’s not on sale online and not available in my local store. I like that dress a lot but for some reason my D doesn’t like it. Not sure why since it’s pretty simple. I might still order it.
I’ve tried three of the Anthropologie dresses on. The pinkish color one is very pretty in real life but it’s too short. One of them I have it coming still in two other sizes but it’s too casual. The longer ML dress is narrow and not comfortable to walk in plus neck is high and not comfortable. The 4th dress they canceled the order.
I like the dress in 1383 but the on in 1393 is nice as well. I know @mom60 wants coverage in back and I agree with some of the other posters that it would be possible to fill in the back on some dresses with something like navy sheer fabric. When I first started trying on MOB dresses, I thought I would get something that didn’t need alterations or fixing in any way, but having tried on DOZENS of dresses, I am getting more and more open to the idea of making (having a dressmaker or tailor make) changes to an almost-right dress. It is much harder than I thought it would be! I guess I am too used to wearing casual, loose-fitting clothes! Lots of dresses are almost right except for showing a bit too much in back or in front. So frustrating when just a tiny bit more fabric would make it possible to wear a regular bra! And so many things just don’t fit…one size is too big and the next is too small, or it fits in the waist but not the shoulders. But my main problem, really, is not being used to wearing dressy clothes these days, and not quite knowing what looks “appropriate” for the mother of the bride. I love the Roz Chast cartoon about the “looks” for MOB/MOG: “Sexy Lady: Mama’s still got it going on.” “Matron: It’s all about being dignified, my dear.” “Flowy: A mom…yet a free spirit.” https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2018/09/10/fashion-statements
I decided to go with a dressy pants outfit for my son’s wedding in a few weeks. I found 2 (one for rehearsal dinner) pretty chiffon pants outfits (pants, shell, flowy jacket). I’m excited about them - I don’t like to wear dresses but wanted to be dressy. Plus I will still be in sneakers from having plates put in to fix a bad foot injury and that will be easier to get away with in flowy pants. At least I’m out of the boot and without the knee scooter.
The whole what to wear is quite stressful. And what is with so many otherwise lovely outfits being doused in glitter?!!
I tried one on in a store while I was still in the boot and it was covered in glitter - was finding it for days. Also ordered one online that I would have loved if it hadn’t been doused in glitter - I’d have to burn my house down to get rid if the glitter it she’d just from trying it on. My daughter also found a beautiful lace dress and thought it had some shiny thread but when she took it off her chest was covered in blue glitter.
Can’t believe adult clothing having glitter on it is even a thing…
