Lots of pretty dresses already shared on this thread.

I know you are going to Nordstrom today and you may not see this in time, but what about this dress at Nordstrom? It is on sale:

I recently helped a friend shop for a blue MOG dress. I just put your requirements into Polyvore and found some nice options:

Another!

I liked the bloomingdale dress because it looked elegant and flattering. The first one was also pretty. I think you should wear the one you will not have to fiddle with so you have fun. But, both of them were beautiful. Congrats on the wedding!

How about these dresses ON SALE?

Sooooooo many really nice dresses! Shellfell, come back & let us know how you made out at Nordstrom!

Wow! I can’t believe all the new suggestions. Thanks to all of you for your suggestions, advice, and feedback.

I"ll try my best to tell you all how things went with references to the particular dresses you recommended.

This was the dress 2 of you suggested and several others liked. I only found it in 6P which fit well, except around the chest. I’ll probably order it in a different size and see how it is, but I am concerned that the bodice has 3 layers of fabric and I’ve been known to pass out if I get too warm.

I didn’t see any of the other Patra dresses suggested by CCers at my Macy’s, so I’d have to order them if I’d like to try them.

At Nordstrom’s, I tried on at least 6 or 7 dresses. The saleswoman was bringing me every navy dress in sizes 6 and/or 8.

The Tadashi Shoji that alot of us liked is a beautiful dress. Of course, Nordstrom’s website said they had it in blue in 6 and 8, but when I got to the store, they didn’t. The dress comes in other colors, so I was at least able to try it for fit. The 6 fit pretty well, but was uncomfortably tight across the hips. I’m also very narrow across the shoulders, so the off-the-shoulder was a little loose, even with the rubberized facing along the top. The size 8 was fine across the hips, but way too loose across the shoulders and back. The dress, in either size, was also very long, and I’m not sure how it would look shortened. The saleswoman indicated that alterations on the size 8 would be complicated. I don’t think I want to get into extensive alterations. Too bad. It was a very pretty dress.

This is just a style of dress that doesn’t look very flattering on me. The skirt is just too much. I seem to look better in dresses that skim the body, not with fuller skirts.

I tried on several other dresses, some similar to ones that have been linked here. Some were too glitzy for this wedding (and my taste); one wasn’t as well made as I would’ve expected at Nordstrom’s.

Oddly enough, the saleswoman wondered why I was returning the Alex Evenings dress in my original post since she thought that would look good on me. I had to explain to her that I was returning it because the petite was too short. She apologized that they don’t carry the dress in regular sizes, but I already have it in regular size from L&T.

The last dress I tried on is this one:http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/lauren-ralph-lauren-lace-jersey-v-neck-gown-regular-petite/3975551?origin=category&BaseUrl=Dresses

The saleswoman thought it looked the best of the ones she had actually seen me try on (she didn’t see all of them). I don’t like the dresses that are totally lace over a beige lining (I feel like I need more color), but this was OK. The skirt is jersey, but only one layer, so it might not get too hot. I’m just not sure if it says “cruise” more than “wedding”.

I will look through all the new suggestions and order ones I’d like to try. I’m hoping to make a decision by the end of the month so I still have some time.

Saks seems to have this one in a size 8. It is on sale for $203. I think it is potentially a really cool dress. I love the way it looks when she’s walking.

^^^That dress is sold out, I believe.

Yes, that dress is sold out, as are some others I’ve seen online (or at least no longer available in my size). I don’t have much time today or tomorrow to virtually dress shop, but, when I do, I’ll be checking out the newer suggestions. Thanks all.

Any opinions on the RL dress in post #69?

The jersey and lace? I like it! I almost posted that dress way back on page one when this thread opened up, but thought, nah, she’s probably seen it and it didn’t work for some reason.

It’s different and looks very comfortable. It has lace, but it’s not too fussy-looking. I think it would be pretty on a petite person.

Shellfell, I absolutely love the first dress you picked out: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/alex-evenings-sequin-lace-trumpet-gown-with-jacket-regular-petite/3938078?origin=category&BaseUrl=Dresses

I think it’s gorgeous.

The Ralph Lauren dress is beautiful!

Thanks for giving us a play by play synopsis Shellfell!

I agree: I like your very first choice of the Alex Evenings gown, without the jacket. I also like the RL gown in post # 69 too. Whatever you choose, at least you are getting options! Now you know what style looks the best on you. Sorry that Tadashi Soji won’t work…but I think with most things, it would need some altering! But if you feel it would be too much altering or take away from the dress style, then forget it, I guess. Too bad. I don’t buy many items that fit me perfectly right from the store. My tailors know me quite well!
Let us know your final decision, good luck!

Jym: Enjoy your S’s wedding too!

I personally do not like the RL dress in post 69 because I don’t like the two tone deal…top being different than the bottom.

But if you love it…go for it.

I agree with post 74. I also liked that first dress you posted.

Shellfell:

Did you try on or consider this one too?

Chocchipcookie : That TS dress is the dress I tried on. It also comes in blue, but the one in the picture is the one they had on the floor. I do realize that any dress I get will need alterations (shortening at a minimum), but the TS dress was going to need major alterations. Even the RL dress was going to need to be taken in at the shoulders, but that would be a more simple alteration than what would need to be done to the TS dress. It’s hard for me to feel comfortable with such major alterations, and I’d be using Nordstrom’s tailors.

Thumper: I’d probably be happier with the RL dress if it was all blue, but I preferred it to all lace dresses with beige linings. I’ll have to compare it to the solid blue dresses I have (or will get) to see if it seems to cut me in half, not a good thing for someone who’s petite. I didn’t get that impression yesterday.

I feel like I’m getting closer and at least feel confident returning some of the dresses I’ve been collecting at home so I can order some new ones.
