I use Olay Complete moisturizer for sensitive skin every day on my face, neck, and chest. It has an SPF of 30, and is light enough to wear under makeup. The bottle costs around $15 at CVS, and lasts me 2-3 months.
My dermatologist suggested Eucerin daily protection SPF-30 for your face. Inexpensive at Targe(4 OZ $7.59)t and more important-- it’s noncomedogenic and fragrance free.
I have dry skin that doesn’t like the sun. (I turn beet red, then peel. Not pretty.) Anyway, I’ve been happily using RoC Hexinol Multi Correction 5 in 1 moisturizer with 30 SPF. Love it. Really soaks in, isn’t sticky, and gets me through the day without feeling like my skin is tight from dryness. $25 at Bed Bath and Beyond; I use the 20% coupons so it comes to around $20.
This doesn’t come in a small bottle and it’s meant for your face. I personally wouldn’t use the same product for your face as you do for your hands/arms/whatever. Different needs. For my hands and arms, I use regular sunscreens that I find on sale.
I like the Neutrogena sensitive skin that has SPF (think 30) that you can get in the drugstore. I also like Philosophy and Kiehl’s if you want to change it up a bit now and then.
Thank you all. I have a feeling I’ll be trying a few different ones listed here because my skin tends to react to random things.
The spf 30 is because the Lupus makes me really sensitive to sunlight. If I’m actually going to be out in the sun for any period of time I need to have spf 50 but then I’ll just use regular sunblock.
I didn’t even think about using a different one for face and body. You can tell I’m new to this :">
Regular use of a board brimmed hat is a big help in avoiding the sun. I keep one in my car, because even wearing sun block I get too much sun through the windows. And I try to always wear one outside. I was doing this long before my dermatologist advised me to do so.
And I cover up my arms and legs.
adding: I don’t wear gloves in summer, but might consider it if I were you. At least the fingerless kinds.
Physical barriers–hats and long-sleeves and long pants trumps sunscreens anyway, according to the dermatologist. We have worn spf50 when we really don’t want UV. Avoiding/minimizing sun exposure is key.
My dermatologist recommended the Laroche-Posay brand of sun products. This one has a 60 spf–it’s great because it’s very light–doesn’t leave white cream on your face/body. You can use this on your face and body.
Ignatius, I’ve been using the EltaMD sunscreens for years, and I love them - with one exception, the one you linked above (Clear SPF 46). I tried that one once and found it incredibly irritating. I’ve used the SPF 40 moisturizer and the SPF physical. Both are great, sink right in, don’t irritate my eyes -and everything irritates my eyes.
We do best with PABA-free, but D has to carefully test a small patch of skin to avoid major grief. She’s even often allergic to ones especially made for sensitive skin. It is food to test for an extended period of time before applying over a large area, in case there’s a delayed reaction
