Hi all, I’m a rising senior and looking to make an application to Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering at U Chicago. I wanted to check the following:
- How is the experience of the course (esp the Quantum track)
- Since the course is not ABET certified, does it affect future potential employability?
Would like comments from current students / alumni of the course
In addition to what you’ve asked, I suggest you reach out to the department or career center and ask specifically for a career outcome report.
The U of Chicago career report is an overall PDF but they should be able to provide you positions taken, company, and salary.
And / or grad schools attended.
Best of luck

Thanks, that’s a good idea
So when they were starting this program around 2017 or so my son toured and talked to the department head (different one). He was world renowned and headed the Fermi lab in Illinois. I wouldn’t worry about ABET with this program. I would talk with current students and ask the department about current graduates you can reach out to.
There is also another thread about this exact questions from 2019. Getting a degree in this from University of Chicago will set you up nicely in your career goals.
Thanks for the feedback!!

My daughter is a third year on the biomolecular engineering track. She has had a wonderful experience so far. She finds her classes very interesting and research opportunities are plentiful. She’s been in two separate research labs since freshman year and received an internship for last summer, and has another internship for this summer. She is incredibly happy with her choice to major in MENG.
Although she is not in the quantum track, she has friends on that track. She has mentioned how impressive that program is and all the research opportunities open to them.
ABET certification has not effected her opportunities at all.
This field is new, so a lot of the information and opinions you read on the web are wrong. Talk to current students and recent grads if you’d like an accurate picture of this major and of job prospects.
As a parent, I am very impressed with the program and excited for my daughters future.
