My problem is finding the COLOR I want for commencement. I want something in a true cardinal red (not burgundy, but not an orange-red either), but that seems to be more of a fall/winter color. Cardinal red is the school color, and it’s a good color for me. A pattern that had that and some black/white in it would be ideal. I cannot do pastels. Commencement is outside, and it will likely be warm. It was record-breaking heat last year. The other challenge is that I’d like a non-synthetic fabric so that it is breathable. I think I am just too particular. I like many of the Boden dresss but not the colors. I also like something that defines my waist. I cannot wear a sheath dress at all - I look like a rectangle.
I also don’t understand how to pair a good walking shoe with a dress.
@Hoggirl I didn’t think twice about pairing my shoes and my dress. Or slacks…for either graduation. Both involved a LOT of walking…so I went for comfort not style.
I will say…I wore a print to DDs graduation and every time I look at the pictures, I wonder what I was thinking when I bought the dress. A solid would have been better.
In really like Debs red top. I could pair that with pants or a skirt, and get a lot of use out of it.
I ended up wearing light weight black pants and a cute top two graduation. I had a cardigan with me if the e
Weather had been chilly. It was so warm we moved to sit by a bench near a tree, and I was glad for the dark pants.
@deb922 - I do like that top, but it would be too boxy on me. If it had some sort of waist to it, I would be all over it! I really do well with wrap-type dresses/tops. The short dress looks too orangey for me. The maxi is cute, but I don’t want a maxi Thank you for trying. See? I’m just too picky.
@thumper1 - what kind of shoes did you wear? I guess I could make sure my feet were cropped out in pics. I have a hard foot to fit, too. I’m just a problem child!!! Thansk for the tip on going with a solid! Maybe a color block?
Are the graduates wearing red? One of my kids did…and boy am I glad I didn’t try to wear red. There are so many different reds…a sold red might just fight with the grad robes. Just a thought.
I wore Born sandals that happened to be VERY comfortable.
Our graduation is held at a local college. It is always CHILLY. A cardigan might be a good idea.
Of course, my own kids graduate at their high school, in the field. Needless to say, sunblock will be more important than a cardigan at the end of June.
Weather is very unpredictable. My kid graduated outdoors in a place where the temps are moderate all the time…and usually it was in the 70’s at the time of year for the graduation. It was in the morning…so even cooler.
Well…graduation day it hit 90, sun. No shade.
If you get a sleeveless or short sleeve something with a sweater, you should be ok.
OTOH, at DSs graduations…end of May…it was cold and raining. I never took my coat off. I could have worn pajamas.
@thumper1 - this is so true about weather being unpredictable.
I’m ordering this in the dark red because it’s a low risk at only forty bucks. Doesn’t meet my fabric requirements, but hoping for the best. Also hoping it isn’t too short. If it works, I can add a fun necklace.
At my younger son’s graduation near Boston it was hot in the morning and freezing in the afternooon. Luckily I had a linen blazer. I wore a Modcloth sundress.
