I don’t know if the pilot’s solution broke rules. Didn’t the daughter end up lying in two seats? Her own and her dad’s? So technically, she was in her seat if that is the case.
^^^I believe she was lying across someone’s lap, not lying in her own seat.
" The mom says she wants to spread awareness…but I fear she is the one that needs to be more “aware.” ‘’
This is the bottom line. The mom may or may not have been aware of the rules but once informed of the rules she could very easily have followed them. Instead, she chose to be offended by the flight attendant and make an hour long fuss and then figured her story would play well on television and she would be seen as a sympathetic victim of an uncompassionate airline employee, but that didn’t happen.
She was lying in her dad’s lap and another seat. I don’t know if it was hers.
I personally don’t care but I know others do…
I want to sit next to dstark when I fly.
Just curious–, how does one lay across 2 seats (or lap and seat) if there is possibly an immovable armrest/table surface in between, as is commonly in first class. Just trying to picture it.
“I want to sit next to dstark when I fly.”
What, you think he might hold you in his lap?
I think you’d rather sit next to me. I’ll hold your hand when it’s turbulent, coerce the flight attendant to be nice to you, put your suitcase in the overhead, and buy you a glass of wine (I have lots of coupons). But I won’t hold you in my lap like dstark would.
It never fails to astonish me what lengths the media will go to when searching for clicks. This is a non-story and a waste of electrons.
And Busdriver will also kick any hijacker’s butt if needed!
It’s obvious to frequent flyers that the parents weren’t making the fuss for the sake of the child who would have been better served in coach seats w liftable armrests. The parents were doing it for themselves.
“It never fails to astonish me what lengths the media will go to when searching for clicks. This is a non-story and a waste of electrons.”
True, but it suckered us into talking about it. So many people have strong feelings about things that happen to them while flying. Inconsiderate people, delays, harsh flight attendants, it’s easy to project one’s flying miseries onto this situation.
I was actually surprised to go onto cc and see it still being talked about. But in a way, something like this is a good thing. More people might become informed and get safety seats for their kids. And realize that just because they got away with something before really isn’t a good defense for why you can continue to do it.
It was supposed to be a sob story about a disabled child with a sympathetic mom fighting a mean airline. But, much to her surprise most people found the mom unlikable and upon imagining the scenario very quickly realized that things don’t add up here, unfortunately.
You’d better believe it, BB. I’ve been waiting 13 years to kick some hijackers butts. I have the things scoped out that I can use as defensive weapons, and I have a plan. All of us middle aged ladies may look weak and harmless, but in our minds, we are superheroes!
My question was a bit rhetorical, GMTplus7, as the answer is pretty obvious. Then again there is a chance, since it was an international flight, that they had those individual seats that recline fully up in first class. If that were the case (dont know if those types are used on that route) there may have been a way to accommodate the child if she could not sit. Would they have allowed a plane to take off if the seat was not in its full upright position? Busdriver??
Of course, she can sit. She was sitting in a stroller before she got on the plane.
I doubt they would allow them to recline the seat during takeoff. Though I’m sure there have been many a time where people had their seats reclined and the FA didn’t notice.
^^^ I’m guessing it was an adaptive stroller.
Busdriver: I appreciate the free drinks offer. Also putting my bags overhead. I can’t do that anymore and have to just wait around looking helpless till someone offers. And hope no one starts fussing at me for holding things up.
She was also photographed sitting on a bike seat. She was sitting on her mom’s lap. She can sit. Maybe, she needs support from an adult sitting next to her, but she sits. Heck. she’s basically sitting in the family photo where her dad is propping her up. The mom should not have said she can’t sit. Everyone saw her sitting. Unless, people are going to argue about what the definition of sitting is now.
Lol!
I thought I never flew.
I will sit next to you, alh.
I have a lot of empathy for this family. I am going through a similar situation involving my daughter today. Today.
I had a meeting recently.Without getting too detailed, I did follow the rules as I knew them. The people I am dealing with lost the documentation. They are very antaganistic towards me. They act like I never gave them the documentation. I looked and I found a letter from them responding to my documentation . Lol I am reticent about giving them the letter. I am kind of trying to let things lie.
The solution is for me to provide more documentation. I argued nicely at the meeting. and I was nice, and I said that they don’t need all this documentation. At the end of the meeting, the person I was dealing with verbally with came up with My Idea of how to solve this issue.
So of course, I said “Yes. Thanks.”
So after the verbal instructions. I go home. I read the written instructions. And they are different. Lol The written
Instructions say I have to provide all this documentation. Lol
Sigh…
Now I have to decide how to deal with this.
My daughter was given $300 too much. Money doesn’t grow on trees. I am not disputing this. I would write them a check…in the end, I will.
