Mom: The Designated Worrier

He’d figure it out.

Or get a new wife.

No, he wouldn’t, he will pine forever, just like my DH would!

DH could handle cooking, laundry, or other housekeeping responsibilities. Where he would be lost is with insurances, bill-paying (he knows how to do it but isn’t familiar with our specific bills), taxes, etc.

Exactly. I have created a notebook where I am trying to compile info for him. It is not an ideal situation to have one person handling all of the bill paying, taxes, financial issues, etc. It’s efficient, but had the potential to backfire.

There is a great Prairie Home Companion episode in which Mom, in her capacity as “unpaid database” for the family is asked, “Where are my pods?” I think the premise was that there had been an alien invasion, hence the pods.

If you do not have fun with anything, DO NOT DO IT!
It includes being a mother! Either enjoy or let somebody else do it. We both fully enjoyed being parents. Of course parents worry, we worry about our adult kids, and one of them already have kids in HS, and we worry about them too! But it is part of being normal parents and grandparents, without it, the life is simply a boring existance. But not everybody would agree with it, so do not have kids, do not be a papent, male or female is not that relevant. I certainly do not want my husband’s reposnsibilities. How about mine? Well, I love doing laundry and that is about the only thing that I do. The rest is done only when I feel like doing it. Well, kids have been out of house for awhile. When they are visiting, I am more than happy to be their servant as well as when we are visiting them. they are our servants.
I am missing something big here as I do not undertand the focus of this discussion. We do not have any household management, we have been working full time our enire lives and even past full retirement age. We hire for everything that we could, somebody cleans the house, somebody does the lawn, shovels snow, repairs whatever gets broken. I am so lazy that I do not even do shopping, but my H. loves it, so no problem here. Whoever feels like at the moment, cleans the kitchen, maybe not everyday. Sometime I fix something to eat, yesterday dinner took me about 10 min. or less. I am so lazy that I do not want to go out, wait to be served, it is way too much, only on special occasion, like very few times a year.
