I went to Starbucks yesterday and got the holiday cup and gulped. When the world is so unsteady, the thought of holiday insanity (inanity?) is incomprehensible.

Oh boy…there are two houses in our neighborhood that have already been decorated for Christmas…I really thought I was having a nightmare, but the lights were still there when I drove by today…and they are across the street from each other…time to take another route…

My family always decorated the week before Christmas and undecorated on New Year’s day, but hubby’s family was a day-after-Thanksgiving family. I love Christmas decorations but always liked to wait till later. Somehow we ended up doing it the day after Thanksgiving and it’s take some of the joy out of the holiday season for me. No build up of anticipation, no short and special time. It’s become an inconvenience. We aren’t spending a lot this year and i’d like the other aspects of the holiday to mean more. I need a Christmas-free bubble until December 10.

there was xmas stuff on the shelves in the dollar store before Halloween. As a non-celebrator of xmas, I just ignore it. I rarely go into any store without my mp3 player. Store music gags me.

yep…heard Christmas music last weekend in Menards. Have also seen Christmas commercials this week on TV - and we all wondered what would fill the time of now-missing political ads.

I overheard a clerk in the drugstore saying to someone ‘what happened to Thanksgiving? We seem like we are skipping it’

I piped up and said, you’re too young to remember this, but there was a time when you didn’t hear or see anything xmas until AFTER Thanksgiving. She asked “Why did it change”. I replied, “there is no money for retailers in Thanksgiving. It’s all about selling stuff”.

She paused and replied “I never thought about it like that, but you’re right!”

Oh no, zoos - you just gave them a new idea!

Yep, Christmas music, displays, trees, etc. in the few stores I frequent. Temperatures have been in the 80’s here this week so it’s extra hard to stomach.

Meet me in the Alley, I’ll buy a round of Pepto for my friends…

Well, it’s pretty obvious that the retailers are going to be desperate for customers this year, so of course they would once again jump start the season and run right over Thanksgiving. This always makes me sad, since I have a late November birthday and have fond memories of the family gathering that included TWO birthday cakes, one for me and the other for my cousin with an 11-24 birthday. Thanks Grandma!

Hiring for temp help for the holiday season is already well below levels from last year, so these poor folks who were counting on some extra money to bolster their holiday season will be bummed out.

I kind of like seeing the holiday decorations. My birthday was yesterday and my H’s birthday is January 30. It kind of feels like the holidays begin with mine and end with his. So I just got back from Macy’s, and lo and behold, it was holiday-y there! I hadn’t been there in a while, though, so I don’t really know when it started. Happy Holidays!
