Monday is for the rejects

I’ve figured it out buy asking the people who got in and who have not heard yet.

Luckily I was accepted the first day.

So you think I’ll get rejected with a 2240, great essays and recs, and sibling legacy, but a 3.6 UW GPA? Not even deferred? It’d be pretty sad if I can get deferred from Duke and not at least get deferred from Mich.

People got rejected today too… the days have nothing to do with acceptance/denial.

yeah lol no way

I don’t think Monday will be strictly rejections, but the bulk of them will be coming out then.

Who was rejected?
So far today I saw one
AndI doubt its authenticity

im sure acceptances and deferrals will come out on monday as well as the days after, at least i hope so. with all the unorganization umich has had to begin with, theres no possible way everyone whos getting accepted got in today and yesterday alone

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I am sure acceptance will appear on monday!!!

If those who are actually REJECTED receive such notice next week, PLEASE post with proof. The bottom line is UM rejects very few in the first go-around–they DEFER almost everyone. If your credentials were obviously sub-par for UM you will get a rejection, but the vast majority who are not accepted by Christmas will get deferred. Deferral is not the end of the world, but it typically means it will be March/April before you hear (SOME defers in the past have heard in Jan/Feb, but not many). If you are accepted in December your credentials were pretty much top notch–look at the GPA/ACT’s that have been posted by the majority of acceptances:ACT’s 30+ and GPA’s 3.8+. Remember: last year’s entering freshman class had an AVERAGE GPA of 3.8–satistically, for every 4.0 there was a 3.6. There is still hope, folks, so don’t venture out on that ledge just yet. No doubt, the Common Application has pushed the overall numbers up, and UM Admissions will have a larger pool to pick from, which only means that the admissions standard bar will ratchet up–but probably just slightly. If your GPA is below a 3.6 you are probably dreaming–if above that, just wait it out.

I’m thinking the pattern is in fact alphabetical… it makes sense for a “T” to be passed up while friends “E”, “M”, and “P” got decisions if that was the case.

But thank you for giving me hope snackyx. GO BLUE!

my friend still hasnt heard back and by her stats i guess defer/reject

Not cool, Firebat, you’re going to give kids heart attacks for nothing.

Firebat, that’s just cruel. It can’t be for the rejects only; I know very, very qualified people who have yet to hear from Michigan. I don’t believe that they will be rejected.

The valedictorian in our school got accepted on Friday but her last name starts with A. So, I can’t say anything for sure. :D

On the other hand, it’s really hard to overlook the fact that there was almost no acceptances on Thursday and almost no rejections/deferrals on Friday.

I guess I’ll never understand how so many intelligent, successful kids are ready to give up on themselves so quickly based on absolutely nothing!! Ignoring the fact that the sample size of CC posters to U of Mich’s EA pool is at most 1-2% (or in Firebat’s case 2 people) you try to draw concrete conclusions about future results. Why does everyone insist on trying to find a pattern in the releases to date? Obviously, the releases are going out based on the 4th letter of your maternal great grandmother’s maiden name…can’t you all see that? If you want to believe Firebat and the other nay-sayers then perhaps you should all call Admissions first thing Monday morning and withdraw your application so you don’t have to suffer the pain of your inevitable rejection. Or here’s a thought…how about believing in yourselves and the great success you’ve all achieved a little more? Statistically speaking…yes, some of you will get deferred when you do get your results and perhaps some of you may even get rejected. But MANY of you will get accepted!! And in any case, I’m fairly certain the earth will continue to rotate no matter what happens. Unless Firebat and his/her friend know something we don’t…

@Wolverine86
For some reason, your post gave me hope despite of its tone. :)

At most, 500 applicants are following the decisions thread and this makes a little bit more than 1%. (if there are 38000 applicants)

OMGMIT…glad to hear it. I’ve read through a lot of Decision threads for excellent schools and it’s very frustrating as a parent to see how many young adults equate their worth and/or the quality of their existence on how one particular school responds to their application. All of you will find further success and happiness because you’re intelligent, driven young adults. Whether or not it starts in Ann Arbor over the next 4 years or somewhere else is irrelevant. Be optimistic…be hopeful…you all should be. But take whatever result you receive and put it in proper perspective. Good Luck!!

firebat, since you’ve already been accepted, this thread isn’t even relevant to you anymore. please stop scaring people that want to go there. also your friend STILL hasn’t heard yet? … did he/she think they would over the weekend or something? because the admissions office isn’t even open. those who haven’t heard will have to wait until at least tomorrow. plus, it’s rude of you to judge admissions based on your friend’s scores. leave that to umich admissions.

and wolverine86, your post was excellent. very honest and well put. I completely agree with you.

I apologize firebat. I just read back that message and it’s tone is a bit harsh. it’s just frustrating to hear all this pessimism. I’m excited for you that you have gotten accepted! but it’s just a tough time for those who have not heard back yet, and since some people tend to read this site like it’s the end-all-be-all of admission decisions (based on previous posts) the negative comments just feed into the worried, stressed, and doubting minds of those still waiting.

Yeah seriously firebat. If I got accepted, I would have removed this forum from my bookmarks by now.
