Hello, yesterday i discovered that my grandma has breast cancer. I want to help and raise money but i don’t know where/how to start. Can someone please help?

Sorry for her diagnosis. One in four women are projected to get breast cancer in the USA. What are you planning to raise the money for? Just because someone has an upsetting health diagnosis doesn’t automatically turn it into a time or need to raise money unless there is a specific purpose and amount you have in mind.

See http://www.youcaring.com/fundraisers-for-cancer-fighters--their-families. I found it on a new article: <a href=“Fundraiser started for girl who lost mom in crash”>http://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/news/2014/05/11/fundraiser-started-girl-lost-mom-crash/8970217/

No, not for her specifically, more of a bigger picture

to help fight breast cancer

Probably more efficient to approach orgs that are already doing this and joining forces than starting one more org to do this, with all the overhead and everything that goes with it.

I would start with one of the existing Breast Cancer charities like Susan G Komen and participate in a walk or whatever and raise money.

You can start your own Relay for Life Team, or one of the walks for breast cancer teams.

I wouldn’t do Komen, hardly any of their money actually goes to research. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/02/08/us-usa-healthcare-komen-research-idUSTRE8171KW20120208 Here’s one of the better ones: Breast Cancer Research Foundation;

^^^ Agree with mathmom about the Komen walk. You might consider raising funds and walking in one of the Avon Walks–there are 2-day walks (40 miles) in cities around the country. In addition, there are training walks to help you get ready. If you don’t want to walk, you could volunteer to help on the day of the walk if there’s one in your area. Otherwise, you could support a walker. Avon puts a majority of the money raised from the walks into breast cancer programs. Here’s an FAQ about the walks.
