Monkeys Are Superior

I am contemplating on buying a notebook and am not sure whether losing one component over another would be worth it.

Either I get 2 GB of RAM and Intel’s 3100X Graphics card or I get 1GB of RAM and NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GT. I do plan on doing some gaming, but am not looking for any PS3 or whatever graphics, because I already have a PS3 and plan on doing major gaming on that. However, I don’t have a 360 and don’t plan on buying one just for Halo 2. And Halo 2 is exactly what I want a good graphics card for. Which option is better? Is a GB of RAM really going to make a huge performance difference and how does Intel’s graphic card compare to the discrete. Also I heard a rumor that T7100,7300,7700 or all odd numbered processors are of the new Santa Rosa chipset, is this true?

I loved Halo: Combat Evolved, but critics agree that Halo 2 sucks. Much worse than the original Halo.
Far Cry is what I want a good graphics card for.

Either way, you are screwed. Imperialist Microsoft made Halo 2 PC for Vista only. So you will NEED at least 2 GB of RAM to play it. I’m not sure how good the Nvidia card is, but the intel graphics accelerator will not be able to handle it.

Intel cards suck. I have one on my laptop, and CS 1.6 becomes choppy sometimes, and this is the original half life engine too.

Get both 2 GB of RAM and the Nvidia, otherwise, ur not going to get a good gaming experience from Halo 2.

Go with the 1GB of RAM with the graphics card ;then go to newegg.com and buy 2x1GB RAM and install that in place of the two 512KBs they’re likely putting in.

It’s not a rumor; the T7100, 7300, 7500 are generally run on the Santa Rosa Platform, which is why the X3100 graphics is even an option; those are the new integrated cards.

I am actually using a T7300 right now with an X3100 and 2GB - no complaints, but if you want to do some gaming, get the 8400M and just save up some and buy ram online.

Thanks alot guys, I actually ended up getting 2GB of RAM, and the NVIDIA. Also I get T7300, so that will probably help. For the graphics card there is 383 mb of dedicated memory. Since I ordered my computer online at sony, I won’t get it for a few days, so I was wondering if anybody could give me some information on how the graphic card I have stacks up against the graphics of a xbox.

It’s a laptop, it’s not going to be as good for sure. Doesn’t mean the game wont be playable.
