My daughter shared a glass of wine with a friend at a wine-tasting last weekend. She found out tonight the friend has mono after a sore throat began Tuesday. I’m guessing, based on what I see on the internet, that her friend was already infected last weekend. I’m quite concerned as my daughter takes medication that suppresses her immune system. Of course, she will call her doctor tomorrow, but there is always such good information here. In the old days, you could get a gamma-globulin shot I believe. Anyone know if that is still done?

Gama globulin shots were often given after exposure to Hepatitis A and the measles, but I wasn’t aware of this practice with respect to Mono. If they are no longer doing this, that leads me to believe it’s because it was found to be ineffective against Mono.

I would encourage your DD to maintain very good nutrition and to get lots of rest for the next 4-6 weeks. Well, that would be a good policy for anyone, but would be even more important for someone who is immunocompromised.

I am curious to hear what your doctor has to say about this.
