To all you CC medical experts, DD has had periodic high fever (up to 103) and nausea for last 10 days. She has had IV fluids twice in the last week. After a mono test that was initially negative, the second test 2 days ago registered positive. Yesterday was a better day, but today she woke up with fever (101) and slight nausea.

This is her second bout with mono (first was 18 months ago) and she had neither high fever nor nausea. I’m wondering if I need to take her back to the dr to see if something else is going on. Does anyone have experience with mono involving these types of symptoms?

Some folks get chronic mono which reoccurs periodically. Sometimes an anti-viral like Valcyte can be helpful–try asking her doc if that might be something worthwhile. Another person I know who is afflicted with chronic mono has found valcyte to be very helpful when nothing else seems to help. Dr. Montoya at Stanford is doing a study about using Valcyte for such circumstances with some promising results. Good luck! Hydration and rest are keys to recovery.
